ABOUT THE JOB This position will support the district small engines and vacuum shop; and will report to 809 Quail Street, Bldg. 5, Lakewood, CO 80215. HOURS AND DAYS WORKED Desired Start Date: 09/30/2024 Tech - Equipment Repair Work Location: In person FLSA: Nonexempt FTE: 1.00000 , Hours/Day: 8.000 , Days/Year: 246 Salary Plan, Grade, Step: CSE - Class Emp-246 / 1.FTE , R25, 1 Pay Range: $30.73 - $38.46 Effective as of: 08-16-2024 Starting salary for non-licensed roles is based on the candidate's relevant work experience and education. Additional considerations may be given for job-specific certifications and skills. RESPONSIBILITIES SUMMARY: Responsible for the repair, maintenance, and upkeep of all District-owned custodial, maintenance, and landscape equipment, including air cooled gasoline engines and associated equipment; air and hydraulic operated equipment; and electric powered equipment and hand tools. Maintain a safe, comfortable, and secure environment for students, staff, and the public. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Perform diagnostic testing. Maintain, repair, rebuild, or overhaul components of the District's air cooled gasoline engines and associated equipment; air and hydraulic linear actuator; electric (millivolt -110 volt AC and DC) computer diagnosis battery; computer operated equipment; and electric powered equipment and hand tools. Prepare and submit completed service orders, including parts, labor hours, and description of repairs in the District's inventory control and work order software (PeopleSoft ALM). Facilitate and provide timely and appropriate communication with schools and departments in the evaluation, prioritization and processing of work orders. Maintain assigned work order tickets by providing notes and closing resolved tickets in a timely manner. Follow county procedures to order materials and parts from vendors to achieve discounts or low cost alternatives. Maintain inventory and coordinate warranty between supplier and end-user warranties to complete job assignments. Utilize welding equipment to design and fabricate parts and repair equipment. Read and interpret schematics and electrical diagrams, microfiche, and manuals for repairing equipment including using internet to research repairs, order parts, and compare unit price. On call as needed to respond to emergencies. Perform housekeeping functions to maintain a clean and safe working environment. Follow District safety guidelines and policies. Train and instruct District employees in safe operation of supported equipment. On call 24/7 for refueling of backup generators. Report amount of fuel and operating hours for State Air Pollution Program/Records. Deliver of equipment to district-wide sites as well as third party vendors. Inventory all (assigning assets) district equipment. Utilize general machine shop equipment to make or re-work parts, frequently improvising machine set-ups and tooling to perform unusual operations. Perform biannual preventive/safety maintenance on District-wide equipment and attachments. Participate in testing and implementation of new equipment. Update and maintain skills and knowledge by attending educational/trade school courses during and outside normal operating hours. Troubleshooting of chemical dosing valves. Perform on-site and mobile equipment repairs including routing as needed to all District locations. Maintain the interior/exterior cleanliness of the District vehicle. Keep truck stocked with parts inventory. Perform other duties as assigned. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND TRAINING: High school diploma/GED required, plus post-secondary courses in mechanics, welding, and electronics. EXPERIENCE: 4 years experience in the repair and maintenance of small air cooled gasoline engines. One year experience in repair and maintenance of electric powered equipment preferred. Applicable vocational school experience is given half time credit (2 years of school equals one year of experience). SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT: Skill and ability to repair a wide variety of air cooled gasoline equipment and electric powered machines. Ability to work flexible shifts. Operating knowledge of and experience with general machine shop equipment and electrical and engine diagnostic equipment. Ability to work in PeopleSoft ALM. Operating knowledge of arc and gas welding equipment and computers within 12 months after hire. Must pass a mechanical aptitude test prior to hire. Must provide hand tools to complete daily work. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS: Valid Colorado driver's license. Small Engines Repair Certificate preferred at hire but required within 12 months after hire.
