Description:
Montana Department of Transportation is recruiting temporary snowplow driver with heavy equipment operation experience for winter road maintenance.This position will perform a variety of work as a laborer including snow removal, fixing guardrail, luminaires, fences and duties as assigned.Winter position is available in the Sidney Maintenance Section.
Working 20- 40 hours per week depending on the weather and the needs of the section.
Must be available for emergency weather conditions and be able to work on weekends and holidays as needed.
Season typically begins mid-November and ends in March (less than six months), depending on weather.
Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions and remain focused and seated for extended periods of time.
Must be able to perform moderate physical activity in lifting, carrying, and/or operating the tools and equipment.

Qualifications
Education & Experience: Requires knowledge of highway maintenance and equipment typically assigned to a section, including basic diesel/gasoline vehicle maintenance:
•One (1) year experience driving heavy truck and operating construction equipment; basic math, computers and record keeping; and the ability to make estimates of materials needed.
•A valid Montana Class A Type II Commercial Operators license w/endorsements for air brakes and tanker is required.
Applicants with a Class B license or a learner's permit and experience are encouraged to apply.
Successful applicant with a learner's permit will be required to obtain a Class A, Type II CDL license with endorsements within 30 days of hire.
Maintenance Technician previous experience Levels
A successful candidate will be placed at a higher salary level withdocumented CDL experience from another city, county, state or tribal highway road department where you were employed for the purpose of road maintenance.
Level I - $27.59- entry level
Level II - $28.09 - 1 year of documented maintenance experience.
Level III - $28.59 - 3 or more years of documented maintenance experience.
This agency may use a training assignment.
Employees in training assignments may be paid below the base pay established by the agency pay rules.
Conditions of the training assignment will be stated in writing at the time of hire.

•Successful applicant must live or relocate within 45 road miles of the assigned maintenance section and must have a telephone or be reasonably accessible to the section headquarters.
Relocation assistance may be offered to the candidate at the time of offer.
