The Role:The Temporary Meter Reader is an entry level role into Water Services.
In this role you will perform a variety of tasks to include going from residence to residence reading water meters, maintaining and replacing water meters, investigating high water usage, and responding to customer inquires.
The ideal candidate for this role will have have good computer skills, customer service skills, and be able to answer questions from residents, and research and resolve issues.
Salary & Hours:This temporary position is paid $21.50 per hour.
This is a Temporary position, and is approved to work up to 40 hours per week. A typical work week ranges from 30-35 hours, Monday - Friday, with your day starting at 7:00 A.M. Benefits:Temporary Personnel are entitled to participate in all City sponsored medical insurance plans.
Retirement:This position participates in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).
Contribution is mandatory, and the current contribution rate is 12.27%.
This position will be open until filled; applicants will be reviewed as they are received. Essential Functions Reads water meters on an assigned route and records information into mobile application.Completes assigned computer based trainings, responds to emails, and ensures accurate entry of customer data.Answers questions and provides information to customers and the general public.Investigates customer complaints regarding high usage readings, no water and water leaks.Assists customers in locating water leaks.Drives an assigned city vehicle to and from various locations.Inspects meters for proper operation and enters notation of damage or malfunction, illegal usage and other customer information into electronic, hand-held unit.Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications/Special Requirements/Success Factors Minimum Qualifications:
One year of experience in customer service or one year of experience working with landscape irrigation or light plumbing.
Candidates that have basic plumbing, landscaping, and computer skills (email, internet, and data entry skills) are preferred.
Knowledge of:City water billing procedures
Basic operation, maintenance, service and repair of water service equipment
Basic mathematics and record keeping principles
Skill in:The use of small hand tools
Operation of a 2-way radio
Ability to:Use a mobile app, email, and computer software.
Analyze customer service problems and take appropriate action or make recommendation.
Make independent on work site decisions
Deal tactfully and courteously with the public and provide good customer service
Interpret City and department rules as applied to water billing and collection services
Test water meters and determine reasons for excessive consumption
Install and replace water meters, clean out, raise/lower meters and replace pipes
Read and follow street maps
Provides training to department staff on meter reading and various service orders
Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.
Special Requirements: Applicants will be required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and will be subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout their period of employment in accordance with the City of Glendale Substance Abuse policy.A valid Arizona driver's license. Requires considerable walking, climbing, kneeling, lifting of up to 80 pounds and standing, often in confined spaces under all weather conditions.
