Location: Edgemere, MD. Position Summary: The Photographic Stylist assists photographers by styling products, mannequins, models, laydowns, and lifestyle photographic images. The stylist will also source and set up props and other necessary materials to form the subject of photo shoots. Photographic styling involves collecting the necessary materials and props before the shoot from various suppliers, arranging objects in the desired fashion, and setting up special effects, if any, e.g., turf, wind, or rain.
The stylist will also assist in the overall flow of products in, within, and out of the studio.
Essential Functions: Responsible for styling the subject material to meet the client's photography brief or style guide, capturing the photographer's artistic intent, and ensuring we are maintaining a fast pace within our quality standards. Ensures smooth and quick transition between articles being shot (model outfit changes, mannequin dressage). Consistency between shots is a measure of success. The stylists should create comfort with the models to allow them to be positioned, tucked, and straightened in a manner that constantly improves the quality and speed of the shoot. Creates a rapport with models to understand pose requirements, transitions, and a natural presentation. Create written documentation, including visual references if necessary, on how specific styling is done. In addition, be able to train, team members to those specific standards. Responsible for the timely completion and accuracy of stylist project job forms throughout the job's lifecycle. (i.e.: production calendar, daily summary, expense sheets, time tracking, and mileage). Contributes improvements in project Pre-Production meetings and Postmortem related to styling and stylists. Including completion and execution of action items assigned to the stylist for the team's success from those meetings promptly. Completes Pre-shoot tasks assigned by the Photographer and Project Manager before the start of the shoot. This includes but is not limited to receiving products, steaming apparel, styling shoes, prop shopping, and setting mannequin stands. Builds and maintains a wardrobe, coordinating and selecting accessories. This may include temporary acquisitions from clients and coordination of accurate returns. Maintains mannequin and prop inventory and sets organization tools in clean, working order. Identifies and plans repair and replacement needs. Responsible for organization and cleanliness of the style prep areas and on-set zone. Required Skills & Qualifications: 2+ years of experience working as a photographer, photographer's assistant, fashion stylist or photography stylist. Associate degree in Fashion, Merchandising, Photographer, or equivalent education and experience Knowledge of digital commercial photography workflow process Proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere. Experience with Capture One, Canon, PhaseOne, and Profoto lighting is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software programs, specifically Word and Excel. Within Excel, the candidate should be able at a minimum to execute a search, sort a list by applying multiple filter settings, populate a new column of data in an existing spreadsheet, and manage file conversions among CSV and text-based files to Excel. Must have an excellent ability to problem solve and creatively respond to set needs. Must have proficient necessary math skills and the ability to read, write, and speak English. Preferred Qualifications: Creative agency experience or content production experience Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring seamless execution through stellar organizational and time management skills. Strong attention to detail with the ability to focus on a repetitive task and consistently accurate data entry. Solves non-routine problems in collaboration with his or her manager; takes the initiative to modify procedures and processes as appropriate and makes contributions that impact work team results. Demonstrated planning skills and the ability to prioritize using information around due dates, clients, internal resource skill sets, and when to escalate for assistance and awareness. Ability to work both independently and within a changing team. Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedules. Experience with ShotFlow and ProWorkflow. Respectful and courteous when interacting with others, a calm and collaborative demeanor is expected when working through conflict. You will always professionally present the studio and yourself. The expectation is to balance listening and talking, writing clearly, and accurately any decisions. Compensation: The hourly rate is $45 - 50 per hour, commensurate with experience and skills.
