English Assistant Professor (Tenure Track)Join Our Mission To Transform Lives
The Contra Costa College English Department is accepting applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor. This assignment begins mid-August, 2025. The teaching assignment will mainly include transfer-level composition as well as supporting the department and college in incorporating a culturally responsive curriculum. The assignment may also include working with learning communities that support African American students, Latinx students, or other groups.
The student population of Contra Costa College (CCC) reflects its surrounding diverse communities. CCC is a proud Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI), serving predominantly historically disadvantaged and under-represented student groups including African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, and Latinx students. Duties and Responsibilities In addition to contractual duties, all full-time faculty are expected to participate actively in their disciplines, department activities, and the general intellectual life and governance of the college. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Advancing equitable student learning through dedicated, exemplary instruction in accordance with established course outlines.Participating in the assessment of student learning outcomes for courses and programs; developing and implementing student learning outcomes assessment processes for courses and programs.Collaborating in the development and revision of curriculum and in program review.Engaging in department program improvement initiatives.Participating in department, division, and college committees.Participating in professional development activities, both departmental and college-wide.Maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter area and effective teaching/learning strategies.Maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.Informing students of course requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance requirements.Preparing and grading class assignments and examinations and informing students of their academic progress.Maintaining attendance, scholastic, and personnel records and submitting them according to published deadlines.Posting and holding sufficient and regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy.Participating in College's shared governance processes.Minimum Qualifications Master's in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition OR Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in linguistics, TESL, speech, education with a specialization in reading, creative writing or journalism OR the equivalent.
Desirable Qualifications Understanding of and commitment to using anti-racist and culturally responsive curriculum and pedagogy.Experience with and commitment to working with and supporting African American students and/or the African American community.Experience with and commitment to working with and supporting Latinx students and/or the Latinx community.Familiarity and experience with learning communities, such as Umoja and Puente.Ability to lead and willingness to support program improvement through collaborative assessment of student learning, staff development, and curriculum development.Experience teaching students who need extra support in transfer-level first-year composition.Formal training and experience in post-secondary reading instruction.Involvement in and commitment to professional and/or community activities.Ideal candidates will possess extraordinary interpersonal skills, leadership qualities, a passion for teaching, and the ability to effectively communicate with students to help them achieve their educational goals.How to Apply Interested applicants must submit all of the application materials online to be considered for this position.It is your responsibility to ensure that all application materials are received on or before the closing date.You should submit an unofficial transcript for screening purposes.All applicants will have an opportunity to upload transcripts when completing our online application process.Applicants with foreign degrees must provide official certification of equivalency to United States degrees.Selection Process Applications will be screened to ensure the applicant meets the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.
