Job Summary The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), one of the largest institutes of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and part of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), conducts and supports a global program of research to better understand, treat, and ultimately prevent infectious, immunologic, and allergic diseases.
The Vaccine Research Center (VRC) within NIAID seeks to recruit outstanding, highly creative scientists for positions as tenure-track investigators (equivalent to assistant or associate professor-level academic faculty) to advance visionary and field-leading basic, translational, and applied research aimed at developing safe and effective novel vaccines and therapeutics against infectious diseases to improve public health outcomes.
VRCs mission is to apply the latest concepts in disease pathogenesis and immunology as well as scientific and technological innovation to design, develop, and manufacture pilot clinical lots and clinically evaluate investigational vaccines, antibody-based products, and other biomedical interventions.
VRC has consistently been at the forefront of major breakthroughs and technological innovations that materially and substantively improve human health, with a research portfolio that includes HIV, coronaviruses, influenza, malaria, tuberculosis, flaviviruses, filoviruses, alphaviruses, paramyxoviruses, and other biothreats and emerging pathogens.
VRC has a highly focused and specialized organizational structure within the intramural research program of NIH, with an integrated, collaborative, and multidisciplinary approach that maximizes scientific discovery to generate prototype vaccines and biologics for clinical studies and to accelerate their development.
See more information about VRC.
VRC is seeking to hire early stage investigators who share VRCs vision for collaboration, mentorship, and the application of transdisciplinary approaches to develop vigorous independent research programs in the following areas of focus: immunology, virology, structural biology, bioengineering, and/or closely related fields.
The ideal candidate will be an exceptional investigator with expertise in one or more of these areas and will be expected to develop exciting research programs that include basic and/or translational research that integrate with VRCs mission.
