Job Summary
The Kinesiology and Public Health Department in the Bailey College of Science and Mathematics at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is seeking to fill one full-time, academic year, tenure track position in environmental health with a record of training or experience in Latinx/e studies, with appointment beginning September 11, 2025.
Appointment at the Assistant Professor rank is anticipated; higher ranks will be considered. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience.
If appointed at the Assistant Professor rank, the anticipated hiring range is $97,788 - $107,628.
If appointed at the Associate Professor rank, the anticipated hiring range is $112,500 - $118,524.

In an initiative to expand its teaching and research program on Environmental Health within its Bachelor of Science in Public Health degree program, the Department of Kinesiology and Public Health at California Polytechnic State University invites applications from a broad spectrum of qualified individuals with a commitment to and expertise in Latinx/e studies. The selected person will be responsible for teaching both lower and upper-division core curriculum courses in the Public Health Program, including Environmental Health, Social Determinants of Health, Applied Epidemiology, and Introduction to Public Health. As part of the university cluster hire, this position will support department, college, and university efforts towards becoming a Hispanic Serving Institution. Individuals with training, experience, and demonstrated skills in inclusive and equitable teaching and/or scholarship linking Latinx/e studies to one or more of the following areas of Environmental Health are encouraged to apply:

Required Qualifications
Doctoral degree in Public Health or closely related field.
Record of training or experience in the field of Environmental Health.
Record of training or experience in Latinx/e studies.
Experience working with Latinx/e populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment.
Demonstrated evidence of (or potential for) promoting DEI in teaching, scholarship, and/or service as well as a dedication to the well-being and advancement of students, colleagues, and the department.
Demonstrated experience and commitment to equitable student-centered learning and teaching.
Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language.
Must provide evidence of (or potential for) high quality teaching and research with students.
Must provide evidence of (or potential for) scholarly productivity.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience and commitment to excellence in teaching public health or environmental health at the university level.
University teaching experience using face to face, hybrid and online delivery and demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching.

About the Department
The Department of Kinesiology and Public Health is a major academic unit within the College of Science and Mathematics offering a BS in Kinesiology and a BS in Public Health. There are approximately 600 undergraduate students, 13 full time faculty, 4 full time lecturers, 25 part time lecturers, and 5 support staff. The mission of the Kinesiology and Public Health (KPH) Department is to promote physical activity and health for all through excellence in teaching, research and service. The department launched a BS in Public Health, enrolling the first cohort of students in the Fall of 2018. Our faculty are actively engaged teacher scholars who study health disparities, maternal and child health, obesity and chronic disease prevention and treatment, cancer prevention, health communication, immigrant health, sexual health, domestic violence and sexual assault prevention, and access to health services. The Center for Health Research (CHR) is a University Research Center housed within the Department of Kinesiology and Public Health that includes several ongoing multi-million-dollar NIH-funded research grants. Projects include long-term prospective human research studies involving hundreds of community participants, local community contracts and partners, and national and international partners. External research grants currently fund approximately 15 staff positions including researchers, faculty investigators, research staff, a community liaison, database managers, phlebotomists, a technician, student research fellows, medical consultants and a translator. In addition, 20-30 undergraduate students conduct independent research in any given quarter.
