The University of New Haven has an exciting opportunity for a Director of Development as part of the University Advancement team. This role requires the ability to secure and manage all aspects of major gifts through direct interaction with donor prospects, including face-to-face visits, to achieve fundraising goals. The ideal candidate will direct a portfolio of 100 plus prospects and support select University schools/college to ensure collaboration and strategic alignment of donor engagement with school and program needs. As a member of the University Advancement's dynamic and growing Development Team, the right individual will also be specifically responsible for serving as the liaison and primary fundraiser for select College/Schools within the University working closely with specific Deans to maximize college support.

You will: Work with the Associate Vice President for Development to establish a plan, including specific goals and timetables, to raise major gifts required within the scope of fundraising needs and to assure the development of relationships with major gift prospects and donors that will maximize their giving potential over time. Develop and actively manage a portfolio of 100 plus major giving prospects. engaging in a highly active level of planned cultivation and solicitation to assure achievement of major gift fundraising goals. Qualify and cultivate new major gift prospects. Design specific strategies for the cultivation and solicitation of major gift prospects; prepare and compile applicable presentations and written proposals Support select University schools or colleges to ensure collaboration and strategic alignment of donor engagement with program needs and funding priorities. Serve as liaison to an Advisory Board for one of the Colleges; working closely with the Dean to recruit members and ensure board productivity. Coordinate special activities and "mini campaigns" with Deans and others involving appropriate constituents, when deemed necessary and appropriate. Work with appropriate university staff to assure effective coordination of cultivation activities. Support the President, Deans, program directors and relevant faculty in major gift related development activities. Meet monthly and annual metrics and fundraising goals. Incorporate moves management in all activity with prospects, ensuring the complete and timely recording of information for prospects through appropriate documentation in the form of contact reports and strategy statements within the Raiser's Edge database. Incorporate planned giving vehicles when appropriate, in coordination with the Director of Planned and Major Gifts. Support the activities of Alumni Relations collaborating on the engagement of major gift prospects within the university. You need: Bachelor's degree. Graduate degree is a plus. At least five years of experience as a major gifts officer, or other related roles, with significant demonstrable success in closing major gifts. Familiarity with fundraising software programs, experience with Raisers Edge is preferred. Thorough knowledge of development principles and moves management with demonstrated experience in face-to-face fundraising, preferably within a higher education or comparably non-profit environment. Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Demonstrated initiative and creativity and strong interpersonal skills. Professional maturity, judgment and decisiveness to motivate and be a leader among colleagues and to inspire confidence among donor prospects. Working knowledge of relevant basic regulations and laws pertaining to philanthropy. Proven ability to interact effectively with donors, prospective donors, including cultivation and solicitations, along with an ability to match donor interests to the school's programs and priorities. Proven ability to create and sustain donor trust and relationships among a broad donor constituency. Ability to function effectively, ethically, creatively and independently in a complex organizational setting with discretion, patience, flexibility, enthusiasm, and humor. Strong desire to excel and exceed goals, and a strong passion for fundraising Ability to travel regionally and nationally. Flexibility with weekend and evening hours for University Advancement special events, dinners, and University related activities.
