ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY A. Reports to: WC Rehab Manager B. Supervises: None C. Key Working Relationships: Staff of physical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing departments, physicians, personnel of contracted facilities patients and families D. Primary Customer Groups: Patients/families, contracted facilities other healthcare facility staff and providers E. Age/Population of Patients Served: Neonatal Adolescent Geriatric Pediatric Adult X All Ages ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS A. Evaluates patients to obtain and interpret data necessary for treatment planning and implementation B. Develops treatment plans, directs, supervises and treats patients in accordance with treatment plan using treatment modalities C. Prepares written report of diagnostic findings, intervention techniques used, progress made and follow-up status in a time frame according to policy and procedure. D. Consults and communicates with patient, family and other multi-disciplinary team members and contracted agencies. E. Assist multidisciplinary team with discharge planning and established home therapy programs. F. Completes required documentation on patients and maintains other department records in accordance with departmental and health center policies and procedures G. Promotes efficient utilization of work time, resources/supplies. Ensures charges are appropriate based on services provided adhering to productivity guidelines. H. Assists in maintaining the department and equipment in a clean and orderly manner in accordance with department policy regarding infection control and preventive maintenance. I. Attends and participates in department in-services and meetings. J. Delegates and supervises activities of physical therapy assistants and technicians, to assure efficient use of department resources K. Is actively involved in planning and promoting department growth and program development L. Provides competent patient care to the above indicated patient populations by obtaining and appropriately interpreting data, making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development, and appropriately adapting procedures and treatments. M. Takes an active role in enhancing ability to carry out job functions through personal and professional/job-related growth and development, and participates in medical center and/or departmental education programs. N. Communicates with and performs duties following the philosophy of Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa and the Sisters of Mercy reflecting the organization's Mission, Values, and Guiding Behaviors. O. Supports and abides by all medical center, departmental, and safety policies and procedures. Proactively identifies safety concerns surrounding the work environment. P. Performs other responsibilities as requested by supervisor, manager or department head. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS A. Flexes/floats to other areas to provide Rehab Services as needs warrant POSITION QUALIFICATIONS A. Education: 1. Completion of American Occupational Therapy Association approved Occupational Therapy Program with a B.S., B.A., M.O.T., M.S., or M.A. degree required 2. Successful completion of Occupational Therapy Certification Examination for Occupational Therapists, Registered and certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) required. 3. Licensed as an Occupational Therapist, Registered in the State of Iowa required. B. Experience: 1. Prefer demonstrated competence in an acute care setting for at least one year. C. Special Skills and Competencies 1. Must have excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. X Must provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS Healthcare Provider, American Heart Association; or American Red Cross, Professional Rescuer-LIVE class only) via current card prior to employment or within 60 days of hire and maintains current status. X Completes Mandatory Reporting: Child and Dependent Adult Abuse requirement within 6 months of hire and renews this requirement every 35 years. Completes Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – American Heart Association within 6 months of hire and maintains current status. Completes Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) – American Heart Association within 6 months of hire and maintains current status. Completes Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – American Heart Association within 6 months of hire and maintains current status. Completes MANDT Training within 6 months of hire and maintains current status. Completes Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) within 6 months of hire and maintains current status.
