Job Duties of the Licensed Practical Nurse:
Uses current nursing techniques to deliver comprehensive patient care, putting the patient's needs first and demonstrating the service excellence principles of care, concern, respect, and cooperation.
By serving as the first point of contact for patient-related matters, a contributing member of a health care team performs the duties of a patient advocate.
Patient Assessment - serves as a patient advocate by acting as the first point of contact for issues involving patients.
explains and carries out doctor's directions by giving medication, performing/ordering procedures, and ordering tests as directed by the doctor
Patient Care - Reviews and assesses the treatment plan, gathers data from the patient and/or family, and, as necessary, adds to it.
collaborates with the patient, family, and multidisciplinary team to advance effective patient care.
fulfills the patient's and family's emotional, cultural, and physical needs.
incorporates professional standards and evidence-based practice whenever possible.
proactively observes and monitors the clinical environment, acting as an advocate for patient safety by ensuring that safety objectives and standards are taken into account when providing treatment in the practice setting.
Communication - meets the demands of patients and/or their families as well as legal and regulatory obligations by performing the necessary documentation and communicating in a knowledgeable and efficient manner.
Maintains privacy of patient's personal health information (PHI)
Work Flow - When instructed by the management, assists with the daily supervision of other clinical employees (other nurses and non-nurse staff members) in order to improve practice workflow.
when the management requests it, gives input on the job-related abilities of unlicensed staff.
acts as a preceptor and mentor for new hires and a reliable resource for non-nurse or non-licensed workers.
Maintains flexibility with work assignments throughout the clinical site to ensure adequate coverage to meet staffing and patient care demands
Requirements:
Current and unrestricted license as a licensed practical nurse in the state of Illinois
Have experience with clients on ventilators and maintaining the settings.
Must have experience with tracheotomy care and suctioning.
Report changes/abnormalities to family & physician.
Ability to crush prescribed medications.
Ability to assist with nebulizer treatments.
Perform dressing change.
Must be able to work 12-hour shifts including weekends: 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM or 8:00 PM – 8:00 AM
