This position is in the Office of Research & Development (ORD), Center for Environmental Solutions & Emergency Response, Homeland Security & Material Management Division, Materials Management & Oil Spills Branch. About ORD:

This is an office-centered position*--you must physically report to the duty station stated in this announcement on a regular basis.

In addition to the basic entry education requirements, you must have specialized experience and/or directly related education as described below:

To qualify for the GS-13 level, you must have 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level defined as conducting independent research in petroleum oil ecotoxicology and chemistry including experience in conducting, leading, analyzing and communicating research on the exposure and adverse effects of oil, dispersants, or other spill response agents; managing technical progress of contracted research in the area of emphasis; and demonstrated ability to report and publish on scientific information on petroleum oils, spill response agents, polycyclic aromatic compounds, or oil spills.

Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas:

Knowledge of petroleum oil ecotoxicology and chemistry.

Skill in interpreting scientific data.

Skill in written communication.

Ability to lead and train a team of researchers.

Skill in oral communication.

Ability to develop plans and program initiatives to support establishment of new scientific standards.

Ability to manage contracts including preparing procurement requests and monitoring technical performance.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
