Are you an international trade attorney looking for a new challenge in a fast-paced, innovative company? Come have fun and make history with Amazon's Global Trade Legal team. We are looking for a talented attorney to manage cutting-edge international trade legal work in support of our Consumer and Operations businesses.

In this role, you will be responsible for counseling Amazon businesses on a broad range of regulatory and commercial matters, with a focus on global regulations governing imports and exports. You will provide day-to-day advice on trade regulations, and advise on emerging regulatory and enforcement trends to help shape Amazon's trade compliance policies and programs. You will work on complex and high-stakes global trade issues affecting current and future business models and technologies at Amazon. Businesses you support will seek your counsel and strategic advice to grow and move selection to our global stores and customers. You will also work with engineers and program managers to support the development and deployment of Amazon-branded offerings and technological innovations, and partner with retail, compliance, and logistics professionals to build and improve compliance policies, procedures and processes. Your work also will involve support of import matters, including tariff classification, country of origin determinations, and customs valuation. You will provide advice to internal stakeholders, as well as develop submissions to regulators and other external stakeholders.

Responsibilities: Performing legal researchProviding legal and risk analysisDrafting guidance documents, decision memos, regulatory submissions, and correspondenceManaging internal data collection/review projectsDeveloping and implementing processes to simplify or automate recurring tasksCoordinating with compliance professionals, government relations specialists, and other legal partners The successful candidate will possess the ability to work efficiently and independently; manage high volumes of tasks and projects with little guidance; react with appropriate urgency to situations and events that require a quick response or turnaround; take effective action without having to know the total picture; and think creatively and be proactive in solving problems. The candidate will also be client-service oriented, have great attention to detail while still meeting tight deadlines, have great organization skills, and have the ability to easily switch gears. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic about technology, enjoy being continually challenged, and demonstrate sound judgment, even in ambiguous situations. A high level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion in handling confidential information, as well as the ability to work well with people at all levels inside and outside the company, is essential.

This position can be based in Arlington, VA, Seattle, WA, or New York City, NY.

Minimum Requirements: 5+ years of legal experienceJuris Doctor and membership in one state bar or equivalentExperience managing multiple projects and meeting aggressive deadlinesExperience advising on internal controls related to import/export complianceExperience handling import/export matters under non-U.S. legal regimesExperience in import and export matters related to e-commerce, technology, supply chain logistics, customs brokerage, or manufacturing. Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $138,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $229,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
