Training Officer - Emergency Preparedness

An employee in this class is responsible for the development of plans, standards and procedures for training appropriate to the needs of the Emergency Management Office and local Emergency Preparedness organizations.
The employee is responsible for establishing and maintaining training programs appropriate to the various functions of the department.
Work is performed under the direction of an administrative supervisor and is reviewed through observation and examination of written reports.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Selects, plans for and supervises the training of local Emergency Preparedness organizations in subjects such as radiation detection, rescue and emergency medical services;Reviews the quality and adequacy of training programs periodically to improve their effectiveness;Maintains liaison with other emergency preparedness services and public and private agencies and coordinates the development of their operational procedures and the training of their personnel in emergency preparedness operations to achieve good coverage and effective performance in time of disaster;Advises the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner on the selection and implementation of training courses. Completion of sixty (60) credits from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by New York State, and two (2) years of paid experience in developing and conducting emergency services, public safety and/or security training programs, one year of which must have been in a public agency.
