Are you ready to be a part of an exceptional team that is accelerating the future of energy? AES Indiana is seeking a highly motivated individual to join us as a Transmission Modeling & Analysis Engineer II. In this role, you will play a crucial part in developing and maintaining a world-class transmission system. You will lead Transmission system analysis, perform power flow analysis, and identify potential system needs for short-, mid-, and long-term planning.
This position will support AES Indiana's goals of becoming a leader in Transmission Planning by providing expert technical support to all prospective projects.
You will be responsible for the following:Perform power flow analysis to fulfill the requirements of TPL-001.Conduct additional power flow analysis to support internal effects such as First Contingency Incremental Transfer Capability (FCITC), injection analysis (ERIS & NRIS), and economic cost modeling (PROMOD).Design and support automated power flow analysis using Python or other scripting languages to expedite the analysis process.Perform injection studies to identify optimal interconnection locations for the placement of generation or load.Estimate network upgrade costs for proposed projects based on applicable tariff.Verify and challenge study results, performing multiple scenario sensitivity analysis.Obtain, update, and maintain regional power flow base cases to support the MISO, SPP, and ERCOT regional plans.Participate in the region's Transmission Planning Processes.Stay up to date on all relevant new and upcoming technologies (GETs) and acquire knowledge to model them according to the region's study criteria.Understand and gain proficiency in Transmission Providers' tariff, business practices, interconnection standards, interconnection study practices, cost allocation methodologies, transmission planning standards, and transmission system performance evaluation criteria.Minimum qualifications for this role include:Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.Engineering rank commensurate with experience in renewable or traditional energy development, modeling, or transmission planning.Experience with HV and EHV transmission system planning, particularly yearly regional transmission expansion planning processes.Proficiency in Python or other automation and data analysis tools.Effective communication and the ability to facilitate technical discussions with both internal and external partners.Basic understanding of grid integration requirements for renewables in MISO, SPP, or ERCOT is a plus.Desired skills and expertise:Experience with steady-state power flow analysis tools, including PSSE, TARA, and PSLF.Experience automating the above tools, and an automation attitude, are essential to this role as AES develops exciting, innovative tools to improve the generator interconnection process.Familiarity with transmission systems and expansion plans, as well as generator interconnection study methodologies in MISO, SPP, and ERCOT.At AES Indiana, we are an equal opportunity employer and believe in providing reasonable accommodations/adjustments to individuals with disabilities.
