**Job Description:**
- The Intermediate Care Unit consists of 30 beds, with 14 private and 16 semi-private rooms.
- Desired nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4, but typically runs at 1:5, with occasional 1:6.
- Charge nurses handle full patient assignments during both day and night shifts.
- Clinical assistants work two 12-hour shifts with patient assignments and two 8-hour shifts in the office.
- Typically, two to three CNAs handle ratios of 1:10-12.
- Weekend requirements include four shifts over Friday, Saturday, and Sunday within a four-week schedule.
- Shift schedules run from 7a to 7p with self-scheduling options allowed to meet unit needs, permitting four requested days off per month.
- Staff may float as needed to Telemetry or Medical-Surgical units with ratios up to 1:6 or occasionally 1:7.
- Comprehensive respiratory support is managed by RTs, including AirVo and Respironics equipment.
- Full IV and PICC/Midline teams provide 24/7 coverage for IV starts.
- The first day of orientation includes four hours with HR and eight hours on the unit with a preceptor, followed by additional on-unit guidance on the second day.
- Common patient diagnoses include chest pain, CHF, arrhythmias, and management post-pacer and pre/post-caths.
- Navy blue scrub attire is required for RNs.
- Flexible with holiday coverage, usually managed by permanent staff.
- The charting system used is Allscripts - Sunrise.
