Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) Job Specialty: Telemetry (Stroke Unit) Job Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour nights, every other weekend, first to float Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 3 years License: Yes Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Experience with Cerner EMR system; experience using NIHSS on the floor; ability to interpret telemetry strips Job Description: - Work in a fast-paced telemetry unit specializing in stroke care with high patient turnover and high acuity/high-risk patients. - Manage a unit with 30 beds, maintaining a patient ratio of 4 to 1. - Utilize Cerner as the primary EMR system. - Use tools such as pagers linked to the call light system and internal spectra link phones. - Complete a unit orientation consisting of 2 12-hour shifts and additional orientation in ICU for potential float situations. - Handle high-risk patients including Non-STEMI, R/O MI & ACS, neuro interventional radiology patients, and post-ICU carotid procedures. - Titrate medications such as Heparin, Amiodarone, and Cardizem, and manage Dopamine and Dobutamine set rates. - Occasionally manage patients from the cath lab or those requiring integrating drips until the infusion is completed. - Participants must be prepared to float to Med/Surg, other telemetry units, and occasionally ICU based on patient acuity. - Utilize a collaborative work environment with 24/7 support from respiratory therapy and pharmacy staff. - Comply with scrub color requirements, wearing navy blue scrubs with optional navy, white, or black undershirts. - Adhere to the break schedule, including a half-hour clocked-out break and three 15-minute breaks as per state law. - Engage in ongoing professional development and competency assessments, particularly in the annual stroke competency program.
