REPORTS TO: Community Planning & Development Program Director
LOCATION: Nome, Pilgrim Hot Springs
The Unaatuq General Manager (Unaatuq GM) will carry out the strategic plan objectives for developing Pilgrim Hot Springs for its owners, Unaatuq, LLC, and ultimately work to ensure the long-term success and sustainability of Unaatuq. The Unaatuq GM will be the main point of contact for the on-site management of Pilgrim Hot Springs and will work on activities such as fundraising/grant writing, hiring & supervising employees, employee training, coordinating volunteers, managing projects, and other endeavors identified in the strategic plan. The Unaatuq GM is expected to spend time on site at Pilgrim Hot Springs in the summer months and may develop a hybrid/remote work agreement during the winter months, as agreed upon between the Unaatuq GM and the Program Director. The Unaatuq GM will be responsible for onsite safety and accessibility for the property.
BRIEF SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: The Unaatuq General Manager will:
Research and become familiar with Pilgrim Hot Springs / Unaatuq publications including history, past reports and projects.Become an expert about the property and Unaatuq's strategic development goals.Manage full-time and seasonal Unaatuq employees. This will include selecting and hiring candidates, developing and conducting new employee training, and supervisory duties such as approving timesheets and financial expense reports, and ensuring employees follow Kawerak policies.Work with the Program Director to identify and apply for funding, partnership opportunities, and grants that are in line with Unaatuq's strategic plan.Manage existing projects and grants for the program and ensure their sustainability. This includes ecotourism, culture/history, food security, and clean energy initiatives. Ensure timely reporting, managing budgets, and may include travel for grant program reviews and conferences.Manage projects at the property and programs as identified by the Unaatuq Management Board.Coordinate meetings between Pilgrim Hot Springs staff members and the Program Director to share regular program updates and project goals.In collaboration with the Program Director, prepare quarterly and annual reports on Pilgrim Hot Springs activities and outcomes, and present reports to the Kawerak and Unaatuq Boards.Develop and maintain preventative maintenance manuals, a schedule and records system, and tracking systems for onsite activitiesDevelop and maintain safety and accessibility for staff, volunteers, and visitors including personal protective equipment, emergency response and first aid equipment, and develop solutions for improved access via the entrance road, interior trails, and parking areas.Other duties as assigned by the Program Director.QUALIFICATIONS: Degree in business-related fields, project management, engineering or a related field. Work experience in similar fields may be substituted for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.Two years of experience in business development, community development, project management and/or experience managing federal and state grants preferred.Two years of supervisory experience. Solid interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds.Experience preferred with employee training programs.Organizational, budgeting, critical thinking skills and sound decision-making abilities are mandatory. Candidate must have strong oral and written communication skills.Must be dependable, self-motivated, self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision.Must be willing and able to spend significant amount of time at the PHS site during summer months.Must be willing and able to travel within and outside of the region.Prefer familiarity with the Bering Strait region, its people and its cultures.Valid Driver's License & a clean driving record are required.Must be able to pass a background check per Kawerak policies.(Native Preference per Public Law 93-638) Approved (12/6/2024)
