Harrison Gray Search has partnered with a growing wholesale brokerage as they expand their underwriting team.
The Underwriter will evaluate insurance applications to assess risk and determine acceptance or rejection by reviewing relevant documents and performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Functions: Reviews applications, inspection reports, maps, and medical reports to assess risk based on factors such as financial standing, age, occupation, accident history, and property condition.
Analyzes company records to evaluate coverage levels, potential losses from catastrophic events, and the possibility of over-insurance.
Underwrites or brokers risks, ensuring all required information is gathered, quotes and binders are confirmed in writing, and policies are issued accurately and promptly.
Reviews and analyzes submissions from producers, rates risks for new and renewal business, and issues quotes, binders, and indications.
Develops relationships with retail agency clients to grow the book of business.
Uses company facilities and binding authorities or brokers risks to negotiate successful placements.
Provides guidance and training to processors and assistants to reduce clerical workload and develop underwriting skills.
Collaborates with other departments, producers, and competitors to foster relationships and improve business.

Qualifications: Required: Bachelor's degree or five years of insurance experience, including two years as an underwriting assistant.
P&C State license.
Proficiency in MS Office and working in a paperless environment.
Strong telephone communication skills.
Experience in excess and surplus lines underwriting agency or company.
Ability to travel periodically, with acceptable motor vehicle record and insurance coverage.
Preferred: CIC or CPCU candidate, familiarity with ISO manuals, forms, and policy coverage.
Physical Requirements: Regular use of a keyboard, mouse, and phone for 7-8 hours per day.
Ability to sit for extended periods.
Adequate vision for computer use.
Ability to interpret documents and write reports.
Basic mathematical skills for calculations.
