Position Overview:
We're seeking a dynamic individual to join our team in a pivotal role responsible for ensuring the robust application of underwriting principles within a large multi-line reinsurance captive program, particularly in evaluating public entity risk. Key Responsibilities:
Risk Analysis and Program Development:
- Dive deep into analyzing and underwriting reinsurance for various risks including workers' compensation, property, and liability.
- Utilize financials, legal documents, and other pertinent information to drive well-informed decisions.
- Work closely with our members and brokers to understand their unique needs and requirements.
- Provide clear coverage interpretation and ensure underwriting acceptability across the board.
- Engage in ongoing underwriting analyses to enhance our business functions and processes.
Policy Administration:
- Meticulously review contracts and policies to ensure compliance with insurance coverage standards.
- Skillfully negotiate terms and conditions of reinsurance contracts.
- Maintain alignment with our organizational goals at every turn.
- Develop and assess ceded and assumed insurance/reinsurance contract wording.
- Issue policies and endorsements with precision.
Program Monitoring:
- Keep a watchful eye on the effectiveness of our reinsurance programs.
- Continuously assess performance metrics and implement necessary improvements.
- Collaborate seamlessly with other departments to streamline processes.
Relationship Management:
- Cultivate and nurture strong relationships with our members, reinsurers, and partners.
- Serve as a dependable point of contact for inquiries and escalations.
- Actively participate in field activities such as board meetings and member gatherings.
- Proactively expand our network of existing and prospective members to drive organizational growth.
Team Coordination and Training:
- Provide effective oversight to our reinsurance and underwriting team.
- Deliver comprehensive training and education on relevant matters.
- Foster a culture of collaboration and efficiency within the team.
- Lead key projects that impact underwriting and related departments.
- Continuously refine workflows and quality reviews to ensure optimal efficiency and accuracy.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
- Some travel may be required (up to 20%).
Qualifications:
Education & Licensing:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Finance, Risk Management, Insurance) required.
- Designations such as CPCU, AU, ARM, CIC, and/or CRM preferred.
Experience:
- Seven (7+) years of property/casualty and/or workers' compensation underwriting experience or equivalent combination required.
- Experience with public entity pools and reinsurance underwriting preferred.
- Proven managerial experience in reinsurance underwriting desirable.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of workers' compensation, property, and liability insurance coverage rating methodology.
- Excellent mathematical skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Proficient analytical and interpretive abilities.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to drive projects and initiatives.
- Exceptional communication and negotiation skills.
- Proficiency in underwriting systems and industry-specific software.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and market trends.
Work Environment:
- Remote work location, preferably in North Carolina.

Salary: $110,000.00 - $135,000.00 per year
