Utility Designer

Details of the offer

Vermont Electric Cooperative (VEC) is seeking a Utility Designer to join our Engineering team. This position plays a vital role in our ability to provide reliable electric service to VEC members.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced line worker who wants to transition to more desk work, or an engineer who wants a customer-facing, direct service role. Sometimes referred to as Field Engineers/Engineering, Utility Designers collaborate with many internal and external departments to ensure new projects are built safely and to specification throughout our Northern Vermont territory.
The ideal candidate has a track record of project management, working with stakeholders to deliver results on time. VEC does not compromise on safety; a safety mindset is a must. There are frequent meetings with members, on their property; communication and customer service skills are also a must.
This position does require a strong working knowledge of electrical theory, either as a result of field work in electric utilities or via education. It is local with some hybrid flexibility, so being based near our Vermont service area is a must.
There is frequent travel within VEC's system for site evaluations and meetings with members, and the company provides use of a vehicle for that purpose. The Engineering team is collaborative and supportive, helping each other regularly. Each Utility Designer has a territory, reviewed periodically as a group, with a goal of equitable workload. The current opening will be based at our headquarters in Johnson, Vermont. We have a desk and a truck ready when you are.
As a member-owned Cooperative, VEC is a nonprofit dedicated to serving our members, not the pockets of shareholders. We strive every day to balance innovation with the delivery of safe, reliable power and the Engineering group is central to both.
A detailed job description including position qualifications can be found by clicking the link below. Include a resume and cover letter when you apply. Note any relevant utility or engineering experience in the cover letter.
VEC is a member-owned electric distribution utility that serves over 33,000 members in Northern Vermont. We are an equal opportunity employer. If you can do the work, we want you as a co-worker.
Minimum Requirements:
5 years Utility experience (ie Journeyman Line Worker) Associates or higher in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
