Title: Veterans Program Support Specialist Agency: Northern VA Community College Location: Fairfax County - 059 FLSA: Nonexempt Hiring Range: $24/hour Full Time or Part Time: Part Time Additional Detail Job Description: General Description: The purpose of the Program Support Specialist will be to provide military/veterans affiliated students with benefit advising support and assistant with the first-level review of analyzing students submit the proper documents for certification of enrollment to VA., and mange the office veteran military services mailbox.
This position will support the Director of Military and Veterans Services and the School Certifying Office.
This position requires for the person to exhibit professional and friendly customer services; detail/accurate records/tracking, communicate with veteran students across NOVA campuses and provide on-campus office coverage as necessary.
The positions will be in-person at the Manassas Campus Veterans Office.
Duties and Tasks: Responsible for performing duties of reviewing veteran benefit enrollment information with support of school certifying official.
Responsible for benefit advising veterans students in their declared major and answer benefit questions as it relates to using veteran benefits, i.e.
Post 911 benefits, with other eligible veterans education benefits Respond to inquiries from Veterans students and eligible dependents of Veterans.
Answer benefits and enrollment questions via telephone, email, and Military Services virtual NOVAQ.
Responsible for managing the veteran military services inbox with accuracy.
Responsible for program support of ordering supplies for the military services department.
The Program Support Specialist works in the Office of the Military and Veterans Services, reporting to the Director.
Minimum Qualifications: Required KSAs: Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Ability to establish goals and priorities and make decisions based on program and institutional policies.
Ability to interpret and explain academic, administrative and veteran policies.
Ability to provide veteran students with accurate information as it relates to GI Bill benefits and other veteran-eligible education benefits.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a diverse student population.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing with strong customer service skills.
Knowledge of processing veterans benefits/similar benefits types Flexibility and motivation to learn new systems.
Knowledge of military and veterans' benefits Minimum Qualifications: Experience working in a case management work setting.
Experience of processing veterans' benefits and program planning.
Experience working in a college setting.
Customer service experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Additional Qualifications: Experience building a network of relationships with the community and Department Social Services service provider.
Experience working with veterans programs and procedures in higher education, preferably in a community college setting.
Experience working in an office setting in higher education.
Experience in direct delivery of services from a case management perspective.
