Position Summary
This position will provide direct animal nursing care duties and provides teaching of animal patient care techniques for multiple courses in the DVM and veterinary technology curriculum in the LeBlanc Clinical Skills Lab and other teaching labs within the College of Veterinary Medicine. Assists with design, fabrication, and repair of models for teaching clinical skills.
CoreResponsibilities
Provide Teaching Support; instruction of knowledge concepts, demonstration of proper patient care techniques, and task assessment of veterinary or veterinary technician students within any MSU CVM teaching course; Coordination and Communication Support; Daily Operations; record keeping, inventory, equipment maintenance, facility maintenance
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years in college, technical or vocational school in Veterinary Technology; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in extensive patient care, surgery, anesthesia, drug- dosing, and sterilization; experience in the use of spreadsheet and word processing software. May require experience in a veterinary hospital research setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; licensed as a Veterinary Technician with the State of Michigan or attainment of such certification within one year from date of employment.
Desired Qualifications
Bachelors degree in veterinary technology; experience working with livestock species (cattle, horses, small ruminants), experience in multi-species animal nursing and biological sample collection techniques; knowledge and experience in standard anesthesia and surgical room equipment and protocols; strong verbal and written communication skills with an ability to interact well with a healthcare team within an academic environment; strong coaching skills and experience with students in a learning environment; ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, display initiative, with high attention to details and record keeping skills.
