The main responsibility of The Lead Veterinarian Technician is to train and manage our team of Veterinarian Technicians.
This includes ongoing team training, communication, assisting or assigning Techs to assist veterinarians, organizing, and monitoring daily team tasks, surgeries, post-surgery procedures, and ensuring the team is adequately staffed during business hours.
Represents & communicates in an effective and professional manner with staff members and clients.
Assists Practice Owner and Management in comprehension of information provided to them and support them with their decisions.
Candidate should be highly motivated, enthusiastic self-starter with a professional attitude.
Candidate must be flexible as schedules can change and will require evening, holiday, or short notice overtime hours.
Can include working holidays or overtime depending on clinic needs.

This is a salary position scheduled for 40 hours/week.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS OF LEAD VET TECH
· Effectively "Team Lead," displaying a positive attitude, acting as a motivating force and example for all staff members.
Must show their ability to delegate tasks and mentor team members for their individual success.
· Must have excellent time management skills to allow for efficient patient flow, recognizing when assistance is needed and asking for help.
Comfortable making decisions, working independently as well as with the team.
· Provide guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance.
Conduct timely performance evaluations, mediate interpersonal problems, and address concerns, make recommendations to the practice manager concerning personnel matters and assist with follow through of disciplinary actions.
· Demonstrate the ability to respond appropriately during an emergency, take directions from the veterinarian and direct others during the event.
Must maintain competency during CPR procedures and cope with death due to surgical complication or euthanasia.
· Proficient in basic veterinary medical concepts, including but not limited to vaccine protocols, medications, dietary and product knowledge.
Must also be able to communicate basic veterinary concepts to owners and be able to repeat information relayed by a veterinarian.
· Ensure that the hospital and its employees comply with federal and state animal health laws and regulations including OSHA, DEA and State Board.
Inform the practice manager and/or veterinarian in charge of any regulatory issues.
· The Lead Vet Tech maintains and troubleshoots all diagnostics equipment, lab equipment, radiology equipment and surgical equipment.
· Must be proficient in animal restraint, understand the characteristics of animal behavior and use appropriate safety equipment for fractious or feral animals.
Also needs to be knowledgeable in the characteristics of animal behavior.
· Must be able to process information rapidly and accurately under stressful conditions and work effectively under those conditions
· Must be able to work standing or sitting for 8 or more hours and lift and carry up to 40 pounds repeatedly throughout the day with help.
Understanding and following all safety protocols for lifting animals or objects over 50 lbs.
· Must be able and willing to perform all the job functions of a Veterinary Assistant.
· All other duties, as assigned by supervisor.
