The Vice President of Tax is responsible for managing tax reporting and compliance for a large, diversified organization, overseeing the timely and accurate filing of tax reports each month across 36 states and at the federal level. Additionally, it addresses complex issues where fundamental principles may not apply or where conflicting data exists.
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor of Professional Accountancy required; MBA or relevant graduate degree, or similar professional experience preferred. Minimum 10 years of finance or accounting experience. Professional credentials a plus. Superior analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to communicate effectively, with strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence. Strong leadership skills with a team-oriented and collaborative approach to work. Experience working in a demanding, deadline-driven environment with highly motivated and driven professionals, involving large, complex, time-sensitive projects. Organizational knowledge, motivational skills, and ability to prioritize tasks to maximize results. Ability to understand the big picture, with an eye for detail. KEY ROLE DUTIES: Responsible for managing the tax reporting and compliance function for a large, diversified organization. Oversees the completion of accurate and timely tax returns in order to minimize the tax obligations of the Company. Each month, the department files approximately 300 tax reports in 36 states and at the Federal level. Tax filings include ad valorem, motor fuel excise, and sales & use. Department is responsible for maintaining business licenses for all locations and maintaining truck fleet's comprehensive licensing and operating authority in 48 states and Canada. Defines and resolves complex issues where fundamental principles do not clearly apply or where data appears to conflict. Interaction requires tact, diplomacy and persuasion skills. Provides tax research and advice to support all domestic companies. Stays abreast of changes in tax rules, regulations and rates. Research tax incentives for new locations and projects to minimize state and local tax burden. Vital role in mergers and acquisitions providing tax guidance and overseeing due diligence on state and local tax issues. Recruit, manage and develop staff emphasizing employee growth. Responsible for the development and execution of department strategy.
