The Vice President of Safety will play a pivotal role in driving innovation and excellence in our Health & Safety practices, leveraging cutting-edge technologies, data analytics, and cross-industry insights to transform safety culture and performance. This role presents a unique opportunity to position HITT as a world-class leader in safety.
Responsibilities Lead a large team of safety professionals; develop emerging talent to ensure long-term success.
Establish robust H&S performance metrics and reporting mechanisms that not only gauge compliance but also drive operational excellence and value creation, leveraging insights from diverse sectors to inform decision-making and innovation.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed a culture of safety into the entire project lifecycle (design, preconstruction, procurement and construction), leveraging insights from other industries.
Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, offering insights and recommendations on H&S-related matters, risk mitigation strategies, and emerging trends that impact the company's long-term viability and reputation.
Champion a culture of innovation and continuous improvement in H&S, spearheading the development and implementation of forward-thinking strategies that harness emerging technologies, such as IoT, AI, and predictive analytics, to anticipate and mitigate risks proactively.
Coordinate and collaborate at a high level with HR and legal/risk teams to develop priorities and strategies for team member H&S and corporate risk.
Define and maintain minimum requirements for training and development of internal team members and trade partners.
Develop criteria for emergency action planning at all offices and job sites.
Maintain relationships at the highest levels with our clients, trade partners and peers.
Qualifications Excellent communication, collaboration, and influencing skills, with the ability to inspire and mobilize cross-functional teams, build strategic partnerships, and drive cultural change and adoption of innovative H&S practices.
Bachelor's degree in environmental health & safety, engineering, or a related field
Minimum of 15 years of progressive leadership experience in H&S roles, with a proven track record of driving innovation and achieving breakthrough results in safety performance across diverse industries.
Deep expertise in H&S management systems, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance,
Strong entrepreneurial mindset and strategic acumen, with the ability to identify emerging trends, anticipate future challenges, and translate insights into actionable H&S strategies that deliver tangible business value and competitive advantage.
Demonstrated thought leadership and active participation in H&S professional networks, with a proven track record of publishing thought-provoking insights, speaking at industry events, and driving collaborative innovation initiatives.
Professional certifications such as CSP or CHST are desirable.
High degree of business acumen and decisiveness required.
