Position SummaryThe Vice Provost for Faculty Success is a full-time, 12-month, unclassified, unrepresented position reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs in the Office of Academic Affairs (OAA). OAA is the central academic administrative office, with responsibility for the institutional academic mission, programming and policy implementation, support programs for academic personnel and students, academic fiscal management, and collective bargaining with the American Association of University Professors (AAUP), the Portland State University Faculty Association (PSUFA - AFT), and the Graduate Employees Union (GEU - AFT).
The Vice Provost is a member of the Provost's OAA Executive Committee and the Academic Leadership Team (ALT), and leads the Academic Employee and Labor Relations Team (AELR).
Minimum QualificationsThe successful candidate will:
Be a tenured faculty member at PSU with the rank of Professor.Show evidence of appropriate leadership and managerial skills.Demonstrate ability to initiate fundraising activities, including the submission of major grant proposals and solicitation of community and corporate support.Exhibit strong understanding of higher education.Exhibit strong understanding of academic labor relations.Demonstrate attributes/skills in the following areas:InterpersonalPriority settingPeer relationshipsOrganizational culturePlanningProblem solvingListeningConfidentialityPreferred QualificationsConflict Resolution and De-escalation Training/Experience.Experience as the chief bargaining representative or chief negotiator.Interest Based Bargaining (IBB) knowledge and Experience.Create an environment that acknowledges, encourages, and celebrates differences.Function and communicate effectively and respectfully within the context of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities, and cultural backgrounds.Seek opportunities to gain experience working and collaborating in diverse, multicultural, and inclusive settings with a willingness to change for continual improvement.Adhere to all of PSU's policies including the policies on Prohibited Discrimination & Harassment and the Professional Standards of Conduct.Contributes to a culture of environmental stewardship, practices resource conservation, and actively works toward achieving long-term sustainability goals.
