Sport Management Program Description Position Details: Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a full-time (0.7 FTE) three-year position of Visiting Instructor in the Sport Management Program to begin August 15, 2024. Annual reappointment is contingent upon favorable performance evaluation and the ongoing needs of the College. Program Information: Sport Management will begin as a major at Gustavus in Fall 2024. This interdisciplinary program will focus on knowledge and skill development in Sport Management, understanding the sociocultural dynamics of sport, and developing skills in critical thinking and ethical leadership. Things you will do: Teach 5 course sections during the academic year. Typically, 2 in the Fall and 3 in the Spring. Primary teaching responsibilities will include Introduction to Sport Management, Facilities and Event Management, and other Sport Management courses in the candidate's area of expertise. Up to two additional courses (7 total courses for 1.0 FTE) may be possible depending on student enrollment, the needs of the College, and the interest of the successful candidate. Help cultivate a welcoming community where everyone feels a sense of belonging. We strive to foster an environment where people can be themselves, build community, learn, and grow. Things you can choose to do: Improve your teaching by joining a teaching circle, participating in workshops, applying for an internal teaching development grant, and engaging in conversations about teaching with colleagues across campus. Advance your scholarship by working with undergraduate research assistants, joining a writing retreat, applying for an internal grant, receiving travel funds to present at conferences, receiving help applying for external grants, and making use of our research facilities. Develop professional skills by participating in faculty meetings and committees, attending faculty development days, and taking advantage of the College's membership to the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD). Letter of application that addresses the required and preferred position qualifications Curriculum vitae A brief (one page) statement of teaching philosophy A list of Sport Management courses you would be interested in developing and teaching Transcripts (scanned copies acceptable) The names and contact information for three professional references (at least one must be able to address teaching experience and teaching effectiveness; please indicate the teaching reference in your letter of application). Please do not ask references to submit letters of recommendation; the committee will conduct reference checks by phone.
Review of applications will begin April 22, 2024. While applications may be accepted after this date, it is not guaranteed that they will be considered. At this time, please only upload the required documents listed above; finalists will be asked to submit a sample syllabus for a 200-level course on facilities and event management and one other sport management class of their choice as well as one sample assignment which exemplifies their approach to teaching sport management. Incomplete applications will not be considered by the search committee.
