POSITION SUMMARY This position is responsible for directing and monitoring the activities of the Underwriting and Product Management Department by providing effective leadership to the management staff within the department to assure maximum quality and efficiency. We are unable to consider applicants for this position in the following states: New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Washington, and Wyoming.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Manages the rate review process for all products, contracts and form changes. Ensures Underwriting and Rate manuals, policies and policy forms are maintained and updated to reflect changing rules and procedures in response to a changing work or legislative environment. Oversees the operation of the department to ensure a high standard of quality, productivity and compliance with all established standards and procedures. Manages effective utilization of Underwriting Work Queues, underwriting review processes and transactional work condition. Manages budget responsibilities specifically in the areas of staffing costs and inspection vendor costs. Responsible for an effective internal audit program to continuously review all aspects of the department to ensure compliance with all established standards and procedures and reporting on results. Ensures compliance with changing rules and forms through ongoing review of information provided by ISO, legislative changes, etc. Maintains a good understanding of standard market conditions. Recommends, through periodic RFP cycles and identification of new business needs, manages, and reports on investigation of risk vendors used by the FAIR Plan. Oversees complaints and underwriting appeals from producers and policyholders, identifying trends and providing solutions. Collaborates with other functions to determine the impact of Underwriting and Product Management rules and processes and supports the organizational goals through internal and external communication, product or rule changes, etc. In conjunction with the Vice President of Finance, assists in the establishment of an annual salary and inspection budget for the Department. Interacts with other department Vice Presidents, in cooperation, to ensure achievement of the FAIR Plan objectives and plans. Adhere to Federal and State laws and regulations. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE The individual must meet the following requirements:
Bachelor's degree in business, statistics, or similar field required. Master's degree or Insurance designation(s) preferred. Ten or more years' experience in Property Underwriting and/or Product Management, including 5 or more years at a manager level or above. Pricing experience preferred. Proven leadership abilities to develop, direct and motivate employees and work across teams. Demonstrated presentation and communication skills (verbal and written) to senior and external leadership. Sound decision making, analysis and judgement skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
