Job Description

This position will directly support the profitable growth of the North America Builder's Risk Direct Insurance team as a Senior Construction Underwriter, based in New York, Chicago, or Houston, producing Builder's Risk, Contractors All Risks (CAR), and Erection All Risks (EAR) insurance contracts on a single project or annual basis form within Civil Infrastructure, Oil & Gas, Power, Renewables, Heavy Industries, and Buildings segments is both US and Canadian territories.


Responsibilities Job Specification:
•Produce profitable new business from the North America region in Builder's Risk, Contractors All Risks (CAR), and Erection All Risks (EAR) insurance contracts on a single project or annual basis form within Civil Infrastructure, Oil & Gas, Power, Renewables, Heavy Industries, and Buildings segments.

•Contribute to the development and quality of the portfolio in accordance with the underwriting policy and the direction being selected by the Global Line of business.

•Contribute to the commercial activity for the Region, in coordination with other Lines of Business.

•Give added value to the Global Construction teams on specific technical and/or language skills.


Key duties and responsibilities
Under the direct authority of the New York based North America Construction Manager:
Principal activities:
•Underwrite, build and maintain a profitable portfolio in accordance with the Specialty Insurance underwriting guidelines.

•Underwrite in a technical manner to assess risks in order to determine their insurability and apply appropriate terms and conditions.

•Identify new business targets in order to develop a profitable profile for Specialty Insurance.

•Build and maintain relationships with clients and their intermediaries (brokers, risk managers, ceding companies).

•Visit regularly our clients, brokers, and project sites (travel approximately 20%).

•Promote SCOR to our customers by using the communication and marketing products (seminars, forums, materials, etc.).

•Work in close cooperation and coordination with your colleagues in the SCOR network with appropriate sharing of business objectives to produce the best response to your producers and for the division.

•Analyse the construction portfolio paying particular attention to profitability.

•Responsibly manage data recorded in our information systems to give an accurate representation of the risks subscribed and to allow portfolio analysis.

•Supervise the administration of the OMEGA back-office tool (in liaison with the Technical Assistants) in relation to new or existing accounts.

•Regularly interact with our claims team to inform the underwriting process.

Contract management:
•Maintain reliable data in the front-end UW tools.

•Ensure proper management of contracts (endorsements, renewals, claims, etc.)
and proper control of the accuracy of data keyed into the IT system.

•Maintain profitability and sustainability as a key driver for decision making.

Client management:
•Adopt a solution-oriented customer centric view, in building on cross selling with other lines of business or with treaty for facultative services.

Global Construction team:
•Participating in broader Global construction initiatives and projects.


Qualifications Required experience & competencies:
You are a senior underwriter with at least 5 to 10 years of experience in your insurance market with exposure to all types of international construction risks.
Previous experience of working in the construction industry is also desirable.

•Able to travel occasionally to New York and other hubs.


Required Education:
Engineering degree and/or recognized business, mathematics or insurance degrees.

Actual salaries may vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, role and performance.
The range listed is just one component of SCOR's total compensation package for employees.
Pay Range: $175,000 - $210,000 salary per year.
Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives.
In addition, we provide a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, a retirement saving plan, paid holidays and paid time off."
