Details of the offer

Who we are

In our interconnected world, journalism needs to deliver common facts to divergent audiences. Our biggest stories, and greatest crises, are now global: from climate change to pandemics, rising inequality to supply chain disruption, political instability to the influence of social media. Yet global trust in the media is at an all-time low. This moment requires a new approach.

Enter Semafor. We are a team of deeply-experienced journalists and media professionals laser focused on providing a global audience with an unparalleled level of journalistic transparency; through innovative new forms, cutting through the noise of the news cycle with smart, distilled views, and exploring competing perspectives across borders.

Join us and help build a global news platform you can trust.

The Role We're looking for a proven, news-hungry Washington reporter to join the Semafor DC team. You would be writing agenda-setting stories covering the Trump administration and its policy and legislative goals. We're looking for someone who has a track record of sourcing up in and beyond the Hill, the White House and/or federal agencies and a keen eye for the next big policy and political story. You'll be a crucial member of our editorial team, contributing to Semafor's daily report as well as our Principals newsletter — a must-read inside and outside Washington for insights into its policy and politics. We're open to journalists who have come up covering different Washington beats, and who would approach coverage from different directions. We're looking for a versatile reporter who has a proven record of thinking beyond the story-of-the-day pack, someone who can spot bigger themes and has the drive necessary to thrive in a new, ambitious environment.

What You'll Do Break news and write smart stories on the Trump administration agenda.  Build and maintain key sources in the administration and the Hill.  Collaborate across the DC team and the rest of Semafor to break stories across multiple beats. Contribute to Semafor's Live Journalism events when needed. What We're Looking For 4 or more years of relevant experience covering Washington.  Proven ability to source deeply in complicated organizations and deliver stories that blend insider knowledge with authoritative writing.. A clear awareness of the areas where the biggest news in policy and politics will happen over the next four years. A comprehensive sense of the competition, and of what the next beat of a big story can be. Experience in scrappy and/or dynamic environments and willingness to jump in wherever needed to help the team succeed. A passion for news in all its forms. Compensation: $110,000 - $150,000 USD/year
