Summary Objective The purpose of this position is trainee level work in the operation of water treatment plant equipment and facilities on an assigned shift. This classification prepares the employee for Class "C" level certification required for employment as a Water Treatment Plant Operator I. After instruction and orientation, the employee will be expected to carry out routine duties as performed by a Water Treatment Plant Operator.
Under the supervision of a Certified Water Treatment Plant Operator or the supervisor, an employee will operate and care for a variety of water treatment plant equipment during an assigned shift. Work involves proper operation and regulation of plant equipment so that end products meet the quality standards of the federal, state and county regulatory agencies and of the Public Works Department. Responsibilities include operation of pumps, lime machines and other related equipment, collecting water samples for laboratory analysis, taking and recording meter readings at regular intervals, and controlling the addition of water treatment chemicals to the raw water.
This class works under close supervision according to set procedures. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent. Must obtain a Class "C" Water Treatment Plant Operator's Certificate by the third examination attempt or within two and one-half (2-1/2) years from the date of hire as a trainee, whichever comes first, as issued by the State of Florida in compliance with Chapter 62-602 of the Florida Administrative Code and all revisions thereof.
