About Commonwealth Fusion Systems: Commonwealth Fusion Systems is on a mission to deliver the urgent transition to fusion energy.Combining decades of research, top talent and new technologies, we're designing and building commercially viable fusion power plants.
And working with policymakers and suppliers to build the energy industry of the future.
We're in the best position to make it happen.
Since 2018, we've raised over $2 billion in capital - more than any other fusion energy company in the U.S.Now we're looking for more thinkers, doers, builders, and makers to join us.
People who'll bring new perspectives, solve tough problems, and thrive as part of a team.
If that's you and this role fits, we want to hear from you. This individual is responsible for performing manufacturing in-house welding work for cutting edge high-field superconducting magnets. This individual will cover our Second Shift which will be 2:30 - 11:30 pm.This team member will:Weld and inspect large metallic structures and tooling within specified timelines and budgets Set up welding processes as per specifications, incl.
determining the correct equipment to use and methods based on the requirementsRead and analyze drawings and take detailed measurements to plan the project layoutCut and join materialPerform hand welding or semi-automated welding.
Utilize advanced forms of welding when needed.
Weld components in vertical, flat, and overhead positionsProvide manufacturability feedback to design engineers for weld geometries and material selectionPerform welding equipment qualification trialsTroubleshoot and resolve manufacturing discrepancies with a focus on continuous improvementFollow safety procedures at all times The ideal candidate will have most, if not all, of these requirements: Documented Training or Certification in most of the following: Blueprint Reading and Fabrication, Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Advanced Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)5+ years' experience as a welder on large structural systems and toolingExperience with large metallic structures and manufacturing processes related to weldingExperience in producing welds to pass industry standard requirementsExperience welding stainless steelExpereince using GTAW process to weld copperAdditional experience and/or qualifications:Experience in welding for pressure vessel, aerospace, and/or nuclear applicationsGTAW, GMAW, SMAW, Electron Beam and Laser Welding ExperienceExperience operating mechanized or automated welding equipmentThe ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documentationExcellent attention to detailKnowledge of various forms of welding equipment and proceduresThe capacity to work unsupervisedA detailed understanding of mathematical and numerical data and calculationsProject and time managementAbility to lift up to 50 lbs regularlyPerform activities such as stooping, typing, standing, and sitting for extended periods of timeDedication to safety to mitigate industrial hazards that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, and cryogenicsWillingness to travel occasionally or do required nights/weekends/on-call#LI-OnsiteAt CFS, we excel in fast-paced environments, driven by our values of integrity, execution, impact, and self-critique.
