Central County Emergency 911 provides Fire and EMS Dispatching services for the vast majority of St. Louis County, Missouri, as well as portions of Franklin and Jefferson Counties.

The Wireless Communications Technician is a newly created full-time, hourly position reporting to the Deputy Director - Technical Services. The incumbent will work closely with Central County personnel, Fire and EMS supervisory personnel, governmental agencies, and public safety jurisdictions within the region to coordinate operational efforts.

Position responsibilities include:

Installation, configuration, and maintenance of wireless communication systems in fleet vehicles, ensuring secure and reliable communication channels. Performing diagnostics, repairs, and updates for vehicle-mounted wireless devices and mobile computing systems. Installing and maintaining fire station alerting systems. Conducting regular tests to ensure operational readiness during emergencies. Resolving connectivity issues. Documenting maintenance schedules, repairs, and inventory for replacement parts. Supporting daily operations within Central County's Technical Services Division, including NextGen911, CAD/RMS, Fire Station Alerting, phone and radio systems, and related software and technology. This position requires significant travel, including driving a company vehicle to various locations as needed.

Qualifications Needed for Success: Legally authorized to work in the U.S., at least 18 years of age, possess a valid driver's license, and HS Diploma (or equivalent). Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently. Possess a basic working knowledge of computer systems and have proficient keyboarding skills. Availability to be on-call after hours for urgent/critical situations. Internal applicants must be free from disciplinary action for the prior one-year period.

Preferred Qualifications: Associate's degree in electronics, telecommunications, or a related field is preferred. 2+ years of experience working with wireless communications systems in fleet vehicles or similar settings. Experience troubleshooting and maintaining mobile computers or similar devices in vehicles/field environments. Familiarity with fire station alerting systems or other critical emergency response communication technologies. Experience with firmware updates, software patches, and configuring communication devices for use in vehicles. Mobile device certifications (i.e., CompTIA A+ or similar that cover the repair/maintenance of mobile systems). Benefits We Offer: Competitive Pay Based on Qualifications.
