Job overview The Agronomist II role is an advanced position in which the primary functions include identifying new customers, growing and managing their own book of business through relationship building based on a strong understanding of equipment and technology, while serving as a mentor for Agronomist I, and providing support for Agronomist III through execution of process and strategy.

Responsibilities Support and deliver processes that include annual strategy meeting, soil sampling, fertilizer recommendations, tissue sampling, and in-field crop scouting. Work collaboratively with the Data Manager to assist with data management. Identify customers to offer services and see the sales process through to close. Aid in the decision-making process of customers for topics related to agronomy, as well as utilize farm management software to manage and analyze data for customers. Manage, support, and build a customer base with agronomic and data services. Look for integrated agronomic solutions and opportunities for customers. Work with customers to implement test trials on their farms. Write variable rate prescriptions for lime, fertilizer, and seeding. Develop plans and implement field days and clinics. Train employees on basic agronomic practices, as well as train employees and customers on the benefits of equipment and technology. Work as a mentor to help coach and develop Agronomist I skills and abilities in addition to providing support with complex questions and issues. Remain current on production practices, latest trends, and changes in regulations. Support management in the pursuit of corporate policies, plans, goals, and long-term objectives. Ensure that the company's reputation and image in the community is consistent with Hutson Inc.'s Core Values. Qualifications 4+ years of work experience as an Agronomist is preferred. Bachelor's Degree in Agronomy, Soil Sciences or a related field is required. Must have a strong understanding of agronomics, soil, water, and crop interactions, as well as knowledge of local farming practices. The ability to learn and catch on quickly is desired, as extensive training will be given for this position. Must possess the ability to think innovatively, analytically and make agronomic recommendations based on the best options for the customer. Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office. Must possess strong interpersonal skills and be comfortable presenting in front of small groups. The ability to collaborate and work as a team is essential. Must be a Certified Crop Advisor. Strong understanding of the agronomic benefits of equipment and technology is required. Visual Acuity: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines (includes inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly of fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes. The worker is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures. The worker is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
