Overview

Talcott has an exciting opportunity for an experienced attorney to have expansive responsibilities supporting Talcott's new product sales efforts, including sales of MYGAs, FIAs and other products, and providing expert legal counsel and compliance support regarding SEC regulations and ongoing filings.


Primary Responsibilities: Legal Guidance and SEC Regulatory Compliance: - Conduct research and provide expert guidance regarding SEC rules and filings relating to a large block of in-force registered products, including variable annuities, UITs, and other products.
As necessary, oversee and/or assist with such filings.
Potentially draft and seek SEC No-Action Letters and meet with SEC personnel regarding novel matters.


- Provide expert legal advice to the organization on various legal matters related to the individual annuities sector, with an initial focus on MYGAs, FIAs and distribution through IMOs.
Overall, generally ensure products and operations are in compliance with insurance regulations, suitability, and contract terms (suitability, replacements, sales practices, etc.).
Program Design & Build: Support the organization as it builds its retail franchise; provide legal and business advice and support to Company's annuity retail platform.
Contract Drafting and Review: Draft, review, and negotiate various commercial contracts and agreements related to annuity contracts, including their sale, underwriting, issuance, and administration, with a focus on selling through IMOs.
Qualifications:Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school Admission to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction and in good standing Minimum of 5 years of experience in SEC regulatory work described above, and familiarity with individual annuities and UITs or other Investment Company structures either in-house or at a law firm Strong understanding of insurance coverages, annuity contracts, and industry regulations Self-reliant and capable of quickly learning new concepts, thinking creatively and critically, agile and adaptable to changing needs and challenges of a fast-paced company Results-oriented and able to work under tight deadlines in a high-performance environment Ability to travel when required.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders at all levels within the organization as well as external partners.
Comfortable in a growth-oriented, entrepreneurial environment.
*Note: This position can be located in our Connecticut or New York office or potentially for an ideal candidate, Charlotte, NC.
