California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) opened in 2002 as the newest campus in the California State University system. About the Program:
CSU Channel Islands is a Hispanic-Serving Institution with a commitment to successfully engage a diverse population of students and faculty. The Teacher Education Department offers elementary, secondary, and special education teaching credentials with the option of earning the Bilingual Authorization in Spanish and offers a teacher residency pathway or a traditional student teaching pathway. We also offer a stand-alone program by which credentialed teachers may seek the Bilingual Authorization. The candidate hired into this position will teach Bilingual Authorization courses and may also teach foundational prerequisite courses for the teaching credential programs, or courses in the MA in Education with emphases in Curriculum & Instruction or Disability Studies, also housed in the Teacher Education Department. Other departments in the School of Education include Educational Foundations which offers a BA in Liberal Studies, Early Childhood Education which offers a BA in Early Childhood Studies, and Educational Leadership and School Counseling and Psychology which offers an MA in Educational Leadership, with emphases in Higher Education and P-12 Administration, a Preliminary Administrative Services Credential embedded in the P-12 emphasis, an MS in School Counseling, and an EdD in Educational Leadership.

About the Position:
CSU Channel Islands invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Bilingual Education (Spanish) to join our Teacher Education Department in the School of Education, with appointment to begin in Fall 2025. The ideal candidate is an experienced Bilingual or Dual Immersion (Spanish) K-12 educator and scholar who brings an equity-minded theoretical framework, a commitment to culturally and linguistically sustaining pedagogies, and an interest in providing leadership that fosters exceptional bilingual praxis across our community. This candidate will be eager to work collaboratively with colleagues across our department and university towards student success, engage in a scholarly research agenda, teach foundational and methods courses in our Spanish Bilingual Authorization, take a leadership role in bilingual education, and advise students in our programs.
Minimum Degree Requirements:
Applicants must hold a Doctoral degree in Bilingual Education or a closely related field from an accredited institution. ABD candidates will be considered but must have completed the Doctoral degree by August 19, 2025.
Required Qualifications:
Experience teaching in Bilingual or Dual Language (Spanish) classrooms in a K-12 setting.

Record of successful credentialed K-12 school teaching for a minimum of three years, with demonstrated effectiveness in teaching multi-ethnic, multicultural and/or multilingual students using a variety of instructional methods and technologies.
Commitment to student success and diversity in K-12 settings.
Evidence of commitment and ability to work in teams.
An emerging record of scholarship in one or more areas of emphasis in education.
Applicants should demonstrate the commitment to effectively work with and engage a diverse student population and evidence of how they would successfully mentor minoritized students with special focus on Latinx, Black/African American, American Indian, and Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander students.

Preferred Qualifications:
Doctoral specialization in Bilingual Education or Dual Language Instruction.
Record of scholarship in Multilingual/ Bilingual/ Dual Language Education.
Proficiency in Spanish and English adequate to teach methods courses in both languages.
Professional expertise and demonstrated excellence in university-level teaching, including teaching methods courses and clinical practice supervision.
Credential emphasis in bilingual education or equivalent.
Record of positive relationships with school district personnel, students, and families.
Experience working with students with special learning needs.
Ongoing experience and a commitment to collaborating or co-teaching with colleagues in P-12 public school settings, and maintaining current knowledge of public schooling contexts in California.
Experience in and commitment to ongoing, outcomes-based, program assessment of teaching and learning.
Knowledge of regional or national accreditation processes and preparation of required documentation.
Experience in online or blended teaching and course development.
Record of grant and contract acquisition.

Responsibilities:
Teach foundational and methods courses in the Bilingual Authorization program and related content areas.

Leadership role in the Bilingual Authorization, with the opportunity to serve as Coordinator.

Advise students in the Bilingual Authorization, and engage in outreach to prospective students, in conjunction with the Bilingual Credential Counselor.

Develop relationships with local school districts to foster excellent clinical practice placements and partnerships for bilingual candidates.

Supervise teacher candidates engaged in clinical practice in local public schools or act as a University Liaison for participants in our bilingual teacher residency program.

Produce scholarly work and engage in an emerging research agenda that contributes to the field of Bilingual Education through scholarly activities such as peer-reviewed publications, grant funding, and conference presentations.

Engage in an active program of service to the program, department, school, university, and community.
