This position is based in Poughkeepsie, New York Summary: The Empress Emergency Medical Services EMS Academy Instructor is responsible for the instructional development of the Academy Students to successfully prepare them for the New York State Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B) State Exam. Under the general supervision of the Course Sponsor and the Director of Clinical Education, the Course Instructor will organize, administer, and evaluate the effectiveness of the training curriculum conducted in accordance with appropriate New York State guidelines and protocols.
Main Duties and Responsibilities: Ensures that course content follows New York State requirements, guidelines, and protocols.Prepares and develops course content for general or specialized training courses, including lesson plans and teaching aids, such as training handbooks, demonstration models, and multimedia visual aids, to achieve established instructional goals.Attends all course sessions.Provides lectures and conducts or co-conducts training sessions as needed.Participates in the scheduling and coordination of classes, training sessions, supplemental courses, evaluation meetings, etc., in accordance with appropriate New York State requirements or guidelines.Tests and evaluates students as necessary, in accordance with New York State requirements and guidelines, to measure learning progress and evaluate the effectiveness of training presentations.Provides trainees with information about course policies, feedback on performance and requirements, access to remedial or tutoring help, and counseling as needed.Maintains records of trainee enrollment, attendance, and performance.Submits trainee enrollment, attendance, and performance records to the Course Sponsor Administrator (CSA) once courses are completed or at the request of the CSA.Acts as liaison between trainees, CSA, clinical preceptors, and New York State Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services.Performs a variety of related duties as required.Minimum Qualifications: Current New York State Certification (EMT-B) (EMT-P) and current CPR Certification.Satisfactorily completes all aspects of the pre-employment process administered by and/or for Empress Ambulance Service, LLC, inclusive of drug screening/background check.High School Diploma or Equivalent.Must be at least 19 years of age.Works indoors in a classroom setting with occasional exposure to outside hazardous conditions and to blood/body fluids, requires respirator use, fumes/odors, extended day, and temperature changes. Frequently works with others, face-to-face contact with others with exposure to noise, mechanical equipment, and electrical equipment.
Physical Requirements: The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. The employee is required to sit; climb or balance; step, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or carry a maximum of 125 pounds unassisted and up to 300 pounds as part of a two-person crew. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
