The ideal candidate is a technically sound and active team leader, who is able to inspire the continuing good work of the Division, address complex technical and financial challenges and respond to the political and social demands of an active coastal community.
Comfort with engaging the public and the ability to capture the confidence of the City's Leadership is an imperative, in addition to the sound judgement necessary to improve and protect the City's infrastructure and public amenities with economic prudence.
Minimum Qualifications Include: B.A.
or B.S in civil engineering, or a closely related engineering field, from an accredited college or university; a master's degree in a relevant field is desirable.
Five or more years of progressively responsible management experience in civil engineering with at least three years in a supervisory capacity.
A valid Certificate of Registration issued by the California State Board of Registration for Civil and Professional Engineers (PE).
Relevant knowledge and experience in: Principles and practices of municipal civil engineering; Federal, State and Municipal codes regarding engineering, building, construction, zoning, environmental and public-of-way activities; principles and practices of structural engineering for residential, commercial, industrial and utility construction; fiscal and employee management; and professional, technical, legal and financial aspects of municipal engineering.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION CLASSIFICATION:
The position is exempt from coverage under the Fair Labor Standards Act and employee is a member of the Unclassified Service.
