*SUMMARY*:




The Lab Assistant is responsible for drawing and preparing blood specimens, preparing laboratory instruments for analysis, and assessing/validating test results before reporting to MLBO medical providers.








*QUALIFICATIONS:*


* Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Phlebotomist Certificate or ability to learn while on-the-job.


* One to three (3) years' experience in related field preferred.


* Moderate knowledge of medical terminology and lab instrumentation.


* Able to work and communicate effectively with patients, families, public agencies, vendors, co-workers, and providers.


* Able to accept direction and constructive feedback and follow through in a timely and accurate manner.


* Ability and willingness to travel as necessary for job and training purposes.


* Able to produce timely and accurate work with a high degree of efficiency.


* Excellent verbal, written, and clerical skills.


* Knowledge of the HIPPA Act and ability to maintain strict confidentiality of all patient, Clinic and Band information.


* Has experience with and understanding of Native American culture and is able to demonstrate cultural sensitivity, and compassion with all patients and co-workers.
Compliance with the Mille Lacs Band's Drug & Alcohol Policy.


* Must have valid driver's license and be insurable under the Bands auto policy.


* Be able to work independent, and have good time management skills.


* Must have a current valid driver's license.


* Must be insurable under the Mille Lacs Band Drivers Insurance policy.


* Must pass a background check.


* Must pass a Pre-employment drug & alcohol test.








*DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*:


* Comply with facility's HIPPA and COLA regulations.


* Establish an understanding of CPT, ICD 10 codes and organize/ oversee activities of the laboratory.


* Ability to pay attention to laboratory data detail and work under time constraints.


* Ability to remain calm and keep composure when dealing with patients and /or parents who are stressed.


* Participate in the maintenance of laboratory personnel, policy procedure manuals and files.


* Collect and process drug screen UA's from MLBO HR department for pre-employment, random, suspicion, and post-accident incidences, as well as drug screen UA's from probation cases.


* Comply with OSHA regulations and work rules, as well as quality assurance practices.


* Ability to fulfill the steps involved in analyzing laboratory test requests from the facility's providers, including:


* proper specimen collection, including patient preparation


* proper specimen: labeling, handling, preservation, processing, preparation, storage, and transportation


* implementing all standard procedures


* performing test method


* proper instrument use, when applicable


* performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration procedures, when applicable


* implementing QC policies and procedures


* assessing and verifying the validity of patient test results by evaluating the QC results before reporting patient results.


* Maintain Laboratory Inventory, order supplies, as needed and assist/organize QA Tasks.


* Other duties as assigned.








*WORKING CONDITIONS:*




· Hours are from 8am-5pm Monday through Friday.




· Minimal stress level.




· Work is indoors.




· Risk or personal danger exposure is moderate due to encountering blood born pathogens.




· Travel to all three clinic sites is expected; travel outside of the state is not required.




Job Type: Full-time




Pay: $18.47 - $20.47 per hour




Expected hours: 40 per week

Experience:


* Phlebotomy: 1 year (Preferred)




License/Certification:


* CNA (Preferred)


* Certified Medical Assistant (Preferred)


* Medical Technologist (Preferred)
