Contract Mechanical Design Engineer - University Park, ILESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Participate in the design of Rail Welding Systems and Support Equipment to meet internal and external customer needs.Provide sound designs, which meet requirements of project specifications.Generate project Bills of Material and Drawings for release through the IFS production system.Work closely with other Holland divisions and external customers to progress construction of equipment to meet project needs.Perform design calculations, as required by spec, or to verify design integrity.Documentation of any equipment and process related changes.Support improvements and upgrades to current and future systems.Provide troubleshooting and repair assistance to all internally developed welding systems and other related equipment.Utilize Failure Mode Effects Analysis to optimize designs.Participate and assist in R&D projects related to the Welding Group and its end products.Utilize Holland's NCR, OFI and Quality Control Program.Unscheduled traveling to various site locations for troubleshooting emergencies with minimum notice.Work in full compliance with the Holland Company Safety program to ensure a safe working environment.Be compliant with all Holland Company and MOD Operating Policies and Guidelines.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.Willingness to wear PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, steel toed boots) as needed.Ability to crouch, bend, stoop, and demonstrate hand/finger dexterity.Ability to climb in and out of mobile operating equipment.ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:Work in all weather conditions if needed for the project.Ability to travel up to 30% both domestically and internationally via ground, air, and rail.QUALIFICATIONS:BSME or degree in a related field strongly preferred.Minimum 3 years' experience in structural, mechanical, and hydraulic areas of machine design.Minimum 3 years' 3D Drafting experience (Solidworks Preferred).Project involvement with capabilities of coordinating timelines, costing, and documentation.Ability to troubleshoot various types of heavy industrial equipment (including remote operating personnel and equipment via phone and other methods).Ability to read electrical, hydraulic schematics and mechanical drawings.PE License in Mechanical Engineering is highly desirable.Good training and coaching skills.Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with customers, employees, management, and vendors.Employee should be quality conscious, self-motivated with a strong work ethic and positive attitude.Possess and maintain a passport.Maintain a valid driver's license and abide by our Corporate Fleet Policy.Pass a mandatory pre-employment drug screen, and maintain a current valid driver's license.
