DoveLewis Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospital is looking for our next Controller to join our accounting and finance team!
DoveLewis is one of the country's largest single-location veterinary hospitals. The non-profit, AAHA-accredited and VECCS Level 1-certified veterinary hospital has an annual revenue of $35 million, which includes revenue from medical services and donations. Dove does not receive any federal funding. This dynamic organization offers an opportunity for its Controller to work closely with the CFO on the forefront of planning for our future expansion.
As the Controller , you will be responsible for overall management of the DoveLewis finances, the production of financial reports, and maintenance of accounting and donor management systems. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer and works closely with our CEO and CAO and department heads across the company to achieve both departmental and organizational goals. This position oversees several members of the accounting and finance team.
Who we are looking for: We are looking for a passionate and detail-oriented person with analytical prowess, capable of providing stability during a time of change and expansion. They should excel in systematic financial management, ensuring accuracy, precision, and timeliness of reporting, and possess proven leadership abilities for managing a financial and accounting team. Collaborative skills are essential, particularly in working closely with the CFO to support financial strategy.
A genuine love of and respect for all animals is required, as is an appreciation of the human-animal bond.
Education and Experience CPA or CMA preferred. Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business management, or another related field. Minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in a similar management role. Supervisory experience and an ability to work with direct reports and cross-departmentally to establish goals, coach, evaluate and guide professional development. Experience within nonprofit organizations or veterinary medicine preferred. A suitable combination of education, industry training, and experience may substitute. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Extensive knowledge of general ledger and finance and accounting functions. Strong knowledge of regulations governing 501c3 organizations and corporate tax. Extensive working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP). Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills. Advanced knowledge of accounting and/or financial analysis software systems. Intermediate skill using MS Office; advanced skill using Excel. Strong management skills; ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers. Ability to facilitate progressive organizational change and development. Ability to think strategically, anticipate future consequences and trends, and incorporate them into the organizational plan. Ability to positively represent DoveLewis at all times.
