Location: Divisional Headquarters, Advancement Department (Hartford, CT) Status: Non-exempt, Part-time
Hours Per Week: 28
Schedule: Mon-Thurs: 8:30 am – 3:30 pm (includes two 15-minute paid breaks); some evenings and weekends as needed
Scope & Purpose of Position: Create and manage a well-coordinated, strategic development plan to cultivate and solicit support from corporations and local businesses throughout Connecticut and Rhode Island for The Salvation Army's Southern New England Division. Seek to establish long-term partnerships, strengthen existing relationships, and initiate new contacts within the corporate sector.
Serve as a positive and professional representative of The Salvation Army. Work with Corps Officers and staff to identify corporate prospects to support specific Corps' fundraising initiatives and/or social service programs (i.e. the Red Kettle Campaign, Angel Tree program, telethons, etc.). Develop and lead the divisional strategy for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of corporate funders. Collaborate with the Divisional Commander and the Director of Advancement to set annual income goals for partnership campaigns. Collaborate with officers and employees to identify corporate prospects to support specific Corps fundraising initiatives or social service programs. Work with the Director of Advancement, Corps Officers, and program staff to articulate funding needs, program goals, objectives, program functions, and activities to produce persuasive proposals and accurate reports. Identify funding sources and proactively seek opportunities to generate new proposals to meet priorities. Open new doors, cultivate, solicit, and steward corporations and businesses throughout Connecticut and Rhode Island. Cultivate new and renew existing donors to meet annual fundraising goals and activity goals, including approximately three to four visits, tours, or meaningful interactions per month with corporate funders and prospects. In addition, conduct presentations to various internal and external constituents to educate groups about The Salvation Army. Cultivate, solicit, and steward corporate sponsors throughout the division for large events, including but not limited to The Connecticut Day of Giving and The Rhode Island Telethon. Research corporate entities and high-potential partnerships that will help fund program areas and advance the overall work of The Salvation Army's Southern New England Division. Develop cultivation and solicitation strategies in collaboration with major gift and planned giving officers with donors in their portfolio connected to corporations. Cultivate a strong community presence by attending networking events, association meetings, business functions, etc. Create fundraising materials, including concept notes, proposals, project budgets, financial reports, program updates, and narrative reports for corporate sponsors. Routinely develop and review library of ask (i.e., proposal database), program-specific content, and stewardship collateral for corporate approach. Write thank-you letters and final reports on how funding was utilized, as requested. Record all prospect contacts, actions, proposals, outcomes, and reports in the donor database, keeping donor information up-to-date and strictly confidential. A bachelor's degree is preferred, or equivalent work experience in a related field. Minimum three years of experience working with corporations and/or proven sales experience and success. High level of comfort communicating with corporation representatives face-to-face, virtually, over the phone, and through written correspondence. Enthusiastic professional, capable of building positive relationships with donors and key stakeholders while maintaining high confidentiality. Experience making presentations to large and small groups with the ability to articulate The Salvation Army's mission to the funding community. Ability to engage a diverse range of constituents and build long-term relationships. Must embrace, support, and reflect well on The Salvation Army's mission and values. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and CRM experience (Salesforce) preferred, knowledgeable about technology's role in fundraising. Ability to understand and explain financial budgets and reports. Capacity to work effectively with varying departments and staff to complete projects. Detail-oriented, adaptable, able to meet deadlines, organized, and able to prioritize and successfully manage multiple projects and tasks gracefully and professionally. Must complete all required training upon hire. Travel required at times; must have a valid driver's license with the ability to obtain and maintain driving privileges per The Salvation Army insurance standards.
