License and Certification Qualifications: American Association of Adapted Sports Programs (AAASP) certification and Georgia teacher certification preferred.

Education Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Bachelor's degree in applicable field of education from a Professional Standards Commission (PSC) approved college or university preferred.

Experience Qualifications: Experience with adapted sports programs preferred.
Experience recognized on salary schedule.

Skills Qualifications: Up-to-date knowledge of applicable sports; ability to teach desirable traits of character; ability to organize and implement related sports programs; ability to maintain a harmonious relationship with other staff members and community support groups; knowledge of safety practices; knowledge of Gwinnett County Public Schools policies and procedures; effective instructional practices; ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school based staff, students, parents, and the community; excellent oral and written communication skills; and excellent human relations skills.

Primary Responsibilities: Responsible for executing adapted sports program objectives and instructing students in the fundamental skills and knowledge of the sport as outlined by the Coordinator of Adaptive Sports.

Teach the desirable traits of character such as persistence, desire to win, teamwork, and cooperation.

2.
Promote interest, skills, and lifelong participation in various physical activities.

3.
Teach knowledge and understanding of athletics and of the fundamentals, rules, and strategies of adaptive sports.

4.
Assist in organizing and administering the athletic program so that it is closely integrated and thoroughly coordinated with the general purposes of education.

5.
Ensure proper care, maintenance, and storage of all athletic equipment.

6.
Work with the Coordinator of Adaptive Sports to serve as the liaison between all team members, parents, local schools, and the AAASP.

7.
Arrange for transportation of injured students to emergency treatment facilities.

8.
Plan and organize all practices while adhering to safety guidelines and proper procedures.

9.
Teach the values of self-discipline, sound physical condition, healthy life style, and cooperation.

10.
Provide an opportunity for competition on an equal basis for all students.

11.
Prepare the venue for all practices and games.

12.
Emphasize safety in teaching techniques and elements of play and thoroughly educate the players in the rules of the game.

13.
Maintain harmonious relationship with all district employees.

14.
Perform other duties as assigned.


Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time.
The employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk.
The employee may be required to use hands to touch, handle, feel, and/or reach.
The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move a student who has fallen from a wheelchair.
