Job Title: Data Abstractor I

Schedule: Flexible hours; must be available for training during normal business hours.
Position Summary The Data Abstractor I is responsible for abstracting and accurately inputting clinical data into various reporting systems. This role requires attention to detail and a thorough understanding of regulatory and accreditation standards.

Key Responsibilities Abstract data for core measures, trauma, VON, and/or cardiovascular services for assigned facilities. Review medical records to extract required data according to standards set by regulatory and accreditation bodies (e.g., CMS, TJC, NHSN). Input abstracted data into designated systems (e.g., COMET, TheraDoc, Digital Innovations). Ensure timely and accurate data submission to meet compliance requirements. Conduct edit checks and resolve data entry errors. Stay updated on clinical guidelines and abstraction standards through continuing education. Communicate effectively with the manager to support compliance and performance goals. Participate in team and educational activities as directed. Adhere to company policies and mission values. Desired Qualifications Experience: Required: 1 year in Health Information Management, coding, or health registry abstraction. Preferred: 2 years as a Trauma Registrar or Abstractor. Experience with Level 1 or Level 2 Trauma Centers. EMR/Registry experience in systems such as Meditech Expanse, Epic, Cerner, DI, or CDM. Proficiency in ICD-10 abstraction systems. Education: Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Preferred: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field or completion of a certified coding program. Certifications: Preferred: Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry (CSTR), Certified Abbreviated Injury Scaling Specialist (CAISS), RHIA, RHIT, CCS, LVN, or RN. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong understanding of medical record documentation, medical terminology, and physiology. Proficiency in abstracting data from medical records and identifying patient discharge dispositions. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications and keyboarding. Familiarity with quality measures and coding logic. Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
