The Opportunity This position works for the Abbott Diabetes Care (ADC) division where we're focused on helping people with diabetes manage their health with life-changing products that provide accurate data to drive better-informed decisions. We're revolutionizing the way people monitor their glucose levels with our new sensing technology.

The primary role of the Data Scientist in Data Strategy and Analytics is to design, validate, and solve strategic questions addressing business opportunities across the organization using a wide variety of structured and unstructured data sources such as app utilization data, customer contacts, sales performance, and secondary analytics on market performance. The Data Scientist will take a leadership role in the development, integration, and execution of Data Science projects across strategic business partners. He/she will work cross-functionally with sales management, finance, marketing, forecasting, and pricing. He/she will present analyses and recommendations concerning strategic investments to senior management as well as scenario analysis for various strategic options on spend and budget allocation.

What You'll Work On Focus on developing hypotheses and employ a diverse toolkit of rigorous analytical approaches, different methodologies, frameworks, and technical approaches to test them. Manage the creation of mathematical models to deliver business value by leveraging statistical practices, operations research techniques, and data analysis. Coordinate efforts with cross-functional divisions and strategic business partners to design systems that support analysis. Create data-driven stories that address strategic business questions, supported by strong analytical skills with a solid foundation in programming (e.g. R, Python), database environment (e.g. big-data platforms, SQL), and dashboard development (e.g. PowerBI). Define and implement a clear data science and analytics roadmap for the division, with proven ability to influence cross-functionally in order to materially impact the business. Conduct advanced statistical and other analyses to provide actionable insights, identify trends, and measure performance. Collaborate with technical translators and understand business opportunities to implement scalable and sustainable solutions. Stay abreast of developments at the intersection of data science, technology, and business relevant to the company and drive business innovation through analytics. Effectively communicate the analytics approach and how it will meet and address objectives to business partners. Develop reporting/dashboards and communicate results to senior management. Manage across both internal and external partners to develop and maintain data science infrastructure. Identify market opportunities within a channel as well as across channels. Evaluate the ROI of promotional efforts and provide recommendations to optimize promotional spend. Understand and incorporate key factors such as market demand, category trends, inventory position, and contract terms to drive comprehensive sales forecasts. Manage and develop people, leading recruitment efforts and coordinating training for new data scientists and ongoing education and development of all direct reports. Build an understanding of strategic issues and develop insightful summaries of key findings, conclusions, and recommendations for senior management. Create and implement training concerning analytics Policies/Compliance and ensure adherence to all financial, quality, and compliance policies and procedures. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. 8+ years of relevant experience in biological data analytics/science in a relevant industrial or academic setting. Preferred Qualifications 10+ years of experience in analytics. Strong understanding of data analytics, structured and unstructured data analysis, predictive modeling techniques, and data visualization. Experience with data querying languages (e.g. SQL), scripting languages (e.g. Python), and/or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R) plus reporting tools such as PowerBI, SAP BI. Experience engaging cross-functional teams to build a strong data infrastructure. A recognized thought leader and innovator in the development of new tools, methodologies, and problem-solving approaches. Outstanding communication skills, particularly in conveying complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences. Ability to travel/work in Europe and other countries for extensive periods when needed (initially 1-3 months at a time; longer-term settling to 10%). Good understanding of AWS tools such as Athena, Sagemaker, Comprehend. Good understanding of data pipelines such as data transfer methods, API documentation. Experience with large-scale A/B testing systems, especially in the domain of online advertising. The base pay for this position is $125,300.00 – $250,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
