Position Summary

This position serves as the Deputy General Counsel (Attorney Supervisor) serving as a supervisor providing daily administration, direction and oversight of staff in the office.The position represents or coordinates representation of the Commission before all levels of State and Federal Courts and administrative tribunals on all agency matters.
As the Deputy, duties are to assist the Commissioners Office and Chief Legal Counsel with planning, operations, and staffing of the functions and responsibilities of the Office of General Counsel.Position assumes the role of leader, coach, facilitator and supporter of quality management and encourages ongoing evaluation and improvement of processes and teamwork in the execution of efficient and effective regulation.This position acts on behalf of the Chief Legal Counsel position in his/her absence.

Salary Information

This position is in schedule-range (71-01) with

an annual salary of $108,160-$114,940, plus excellent benefits

. A 2 year career executive trial period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification:
Candidates must be licensed to practice law in the State of Wisconsin at the time of the appointment to the position.
Candidate meets the Acceptable level if they have experience with each of the following:
Experience providing legal counsel relating to a variety (2 or more) of different legal areas (legal areas may include: administrative law, environmental law, construction law, personnel law, etc.)
Litigation experience at all levels of state and federal courts or prosecuting contested matters in an administrative forum
Experience preparing witnesses, testimony, cross-examination, and argument for court and agency proceedings
In addition

to having all the criteria listed at the Acceptable level, candidate at the More than Acceptable level has experience with

at least one

of the following:
Experience working in a supervisory or lead role administering and directing the work of attorneys, paralegals and support staff on litigation matters
Experience providing legal counsel to executive management
Legal experience related to utility law
