JOB DESCRIPTION

The Public Relations (PR) Director is a critical member of the Marketing and Communications team who works closely with the SVP of Marketing and Communications on a daily basis. This person will be responsible for ensuring timely and accurate responsiveness to emergencies, crises and other events, which can occur at any time 24/7. The Director will also proactively secure positive media placement of local and national GMR initiatives. Working with the SVP of Marketing and Communications, the Director will provide strategic and tactical PR and media relations counseling to members of the operations teams across GMR on a daily basis.

The PR Director must be a strong writer and communicator, somebody who can manage multiple requests at any given time. This person must be a doer who can function at multiple levels, managing many tasks. Experience within the healthcare industry is preferred but not mandatory. This person should be hands-on with exceptionally strong project management skills, attention to detail and a flexible/approachable demeanor. The PR Director will collaborate daily with the members of GMR's Marketing and Communications team as well as executives across GMR's subsidiaries. The Director will also directly supervise three regional brand specialists and indirectly manage local/regional Public Information Officers (PIOs) and Community Relations Advocates (CRAs).

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Manage daily contingency and crisis communications.
Develop and implement a comprehensive media relations strategy to support key corporate opportunities and issues.
Extend GMR's media relationships and footprint with media targets reaching broader audiences that influence the company's reputation (including tier 1 and industry outlets).
Provide ongoing reporting and analysis.
Serve as a spokesperson on key corporate issues in the media. Identify other spokespeople as needed.
Work with leads across GMR to ensure alignment with strategic objectives and preparedness for proactive or reactive media engagement; develop position statements and train spokespeople/PIOs as needed.
Assist across GMR with community relations as needed.
Help extend GMR's reputation efforts and ensure timely connections with social media and executive teams.
Manage PR Specialists
Secure proactive Media Relations for good news stories.
Secure media training for executives, operations leaders as needed.
Oversee PIO and CRA training and certification program.
Assignments at disaster and crisis incident deployments
Available for rotating on-call shifts
Potentially manage communications team members on a project basis.
Manage other duties related to communications as assigned by the SVP or other designated leadership.
Assists as necessary with key announcements and plans.

Non-Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Experience leading and directing the work of others required.
A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
Education/Licensing/Certification

4-year degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, Media, English or related field. We will consider extensive related operational experience, such as a PIO.
Experience

5-7 years of directly related crisis communications and media relations experience.
Healthcare industry experience preferred but not mandatory.
Experience providing media relations and PR counsel to company leaders.
Knowledge & Skills:

Required:

Experience with media intelligence software or wire services.
Excellent writing and verbal communication skills required.
Excellent phone and customer service skills required.
Strong organizational skills required.
Demonstrated leadership skills required.
Strong creativity, judgment, enthusiasm and customer-service focus are needed to be successful in this role.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint are required.
Familiarity with GMR and affiliates or related industry a plus.

Salary Range: $95,000-$100,000
