Business Development Director, Nutraceuticals
Watsonville, CA (Remote)
Scope of the Job
As the Business Development Director, you will be responsible for driving sales, spearheading business development, and maximizing profitability. Your expertise will shape strategic initiatives in production, processing, product development, and industry best practices. You'll ensure our products meet top-tier quality standards and delivery schedules while championing continuous improvement to achieve scalability and meet corporate goals of quality, cost efficiency, customer satisfaction, and timely delivery.
Responsibilities
Identifying Opportunities
Sourcing customers and partners in nutraceutical, food, beauty, and ingredient industries
Identification of prospective clients using business directories leads from existing clients, participation in organizations, and/or trade show/conference attendance.
Building Relationships & Customer Relationship Management
Deeply understanding client needs in branded, private label, and contract manufacturing in the nutraceutical industry
Actively manage, direct, and support relationships with sales and distribution brokers and representatives
Deeply understand production lead times and manage effectively for successful, on-time product delivery to clients
Monitor key customer relationships, market conditions, and competitor activity, and provide timely feedback to executive leadership.
Travel to manage and develop customer relationships
Presentation and Proposals
Managing and presenting product demonstrations, educational programs, sales and marketing events, and various trade and business development functions
Develop budget, and capacity planning strategies and define and implement the means to leverage existing systems for improved effectiveness.
Strategic Planning & Collaboration
Collaborate with Operations, Product Development, and Quality Assurance teammates on
Performance Monitoring
Grow company reputation for top-quality products and superb customer service.
Continuous Learning & Adaptability
Staying up to date on regulatory and quality control issues regarding nutraceuticals, dietary supplements, etc.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Food Science, Nutritional Science, or related fields
5-7 years of sales-related experience in the nutraceutical products or ingredients industry
Familiarity with the nutrition and supplement industries, private labels, wholesalers, distributors, internet marketers, food and ingredient manufacturers and distributors, and other key players.
Knowledge of principles and processing for providing customer service; including needs, meeting quality standards and evaluation of client satisfaction
Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products and/or services, including marketing strategy and tactics, sales techniques, and sales control systems
Professional and friendly demeanor in all communications (face-to-face, telephone, electronically, etc.)
Understand technical aspects of private labels, contract manufacture, and customer requirements in the nutraceutical industry.
Awareness of Regulatory and Quality Control requirements regarding dietary supplements
Excellent organizational skills and execution of details to facilitate the sales process.
Ability to interface well with other departments: Regulatory, Operations, and Quality to obtain information to complete the sale.
Proficiency with Google Workspace Tools and/or Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Office 365 Programs
Must be able to travel 25-30%
