The Sky-Hi News is seeking an editor to lead its newsroom. The ideal candidate will be a leader and a planner who knows how to strategize and execute a wide variety of content — from in-depth features to concise breaking news updates — working collaboratively with writers, designers, and editors on coverage. The right candidate will be comfortable managing a content calendar while coaching and supporting a team of young writers to achieve short- and long-term assignment goals. We also need someone with a digital-first mindset who understands that if the website is strong, the print product will be, too.
The Sky-Hi News publishes a newspaper twice weekly, serving the area of Grand County. Part of Swift Communications with publications across Colorado's Western Slope, our company culture prioritizes teamwork, community involvement, and a lifelong love of learning.
Compensation: $60,000-$65,000 annually DOEResponsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Oversee a team of reporters, community contributors, and freelancersEdit stories for clarity, accuracy, readability, content, style, and grammar for the newspaper, website, and magazinesLead planning and oversee execution of a multiplatform content strategy that drives audience engagementAssist team of designers in production of newspaper and magazinesDemonstrate sound editorial judgment, including an understanding of institutional guidelines on ethics, tone, and subject matterMove quickly and be flexible in a changing, fast-paced digital environmentBuild strong community connections through personal interactionQualifications: 5+ years of newsroom experienceManagement experience, with team development, organizational and planning skillsExperience with content management systemsKnowledge of AP style and InDesignUnderstanding of digital distribution and analyticsAvailability to work some nights and weekendsMust have a current driver's license or the ability to get oneSwift Communications is an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
