Hello Neighbor is seeking an English as a New Language Instructor to teach English language classes to adult refugee learners.The ENL Instructor position works within the Education and Community Empowerment department to empower students with English language skills. Founded in 2017, Hello Neighbor works to improve the lives of recently resettled refugee families by matching them with dedicated neighbors to guide and support them in their new home. We've expanded from our mentorship program to now include refugee resettlement services, family service programs, a national program supporting other refugee and immigrant nonprofits around the country. This is an in-house, regular, part-time, non-exempt position at our Pittsburgh, PA office in Larimer. The successful candidate must be currently authorized to work in the United States. \n Key ResponsibilitiesTeaches two English courses, each meeting twice weekly for two hours. Cultivates a welcoming and engaging classroom environment with creative and stimulating instruction as well as material relevant to students' everyday lives. Responsible for preparation of class materials as well as development and expansion on existing curriculum. Works with Language Access Coordinator to schedule and enroll new students.Collaborates with volunteer supporters including tutors and classroom TAs. Maintains all necessary documentation of student data, attendance records, pre- and post-assessment scoring, case notes, and reports.Conducts program services in a culturally sensitive mannerParticipates in regular supervision meetings and relevant staff meetingsAdheres to Hello Neighbor's confidentiality guidelines and ensures the appropriate handling of sensitive informationOther duties as assigned within the scope of position expectations Preferred QualificationsBachelor's Degree or higher in related field (social work, sociology, anthropology, international relations, or similar) and 2-3 years of related professional experience, or at least 4-5 years of related professional experienceDemonstrated ability to effectively work with refugee and immigrant communitiesExcellent communicator with strong written and verbal ability Possesses cultural humility and openness the diverse perspectives, behaviors, and needs of the communities servedAble to cultivate excellent relationships with clients, staff, and partnersExhibits adept task management, including priority setting, meeting deadlines, and efficient time scheduling for multiple responsibilitiesDigital literacy and the ability to learn new softwareFlexibility and ability to work nights and weekends as necessaryEffective collaboration with others through cooperative effortsWillingness to work in a fast-paced, multicultural environmentAlignment with and support of Hello Neighbor's core valuesBilingual or multilingual in priority language preferred (Dari, Pashto, Arabic, Swahili, French, Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, Haitian-Creole, Rohingya) About YouEnergetic, motivated, and hardworkingAbility to take direction and work independently, as well as collaborativelyAbility to take initiative and manage multiple tasks and projects at a timePassion for community building, refugee and immigrant rightsCultural sensitivity and the ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgroundsExcellent writing, communication, and organizational skillsLiving migration experience and fluency in other languages a plus (preferred languages: Dari, Pashto, Arabic, Swahili, French, Spanish, Haitian-Creole, Rohingya) Additional Details$24-26/hourly, 10-15 hours weeklyThis is an in-house, regular, part-time, non-exempt position.
